This is what I had in mind: 4 or 5 people decide to put their effort in organizing it: providing the server, receiving sign-up's via PM's, making a bracket, refereeing the matches and generally making sure everything is in order during the event, kicking trolls, etc.
We all know that most of the time players in this mod tend to gather in some small groups either on TS or without it but its mostly those few people you enjoy hanging out with, whether its real life friends or just virtual ones. Nations Cups, Leagues, Tournaments of all sorts and formats could have passed in the beginnings of this mod when everything was new and interesting and maybe they will be successful again in some new game but right now everyone just hops in when bored, does some fighting with those few mates on TS and moves on as soon as they're bored/enraged/whatever. Events of larger proportions are all good but its always a trouble to have more then 10 men at the specified time due to real life obligations and even when you gather them there's the events regulations, classes, nationalities, gear, etc so I was thinking about 5-a-side + 2 subs with no restrictions at all. You gather 5-7 friends, make a team with a certain name and sign up via PM to those 5 guys in charge, they would have to make a thread with their forum names so "captains" can sigh their teams. They would set a deadline ofc (somewhere during May or June) and all teams that would sign up would be organized in some kind of a bracket, hopefully there would be a nice round number of them so simple elimination can be done, like a Cup. :wink:
Format is 5 + 2 but if someone signs with only 5 and is 100% certain that they will show up its fine, if 1 is missing they fight with 4 vs 5, not much we can do for them in that case. This is how it would work:
Lets say Bjord and a couple of his mates decide to form a team........wait, wrong from the start: Bjord doesn't have any friends even in this mod so its a wrong example, I'll try again: Lets say these couple of jolly chaps gather up and make a team:

Murmillus the Fat Scum
Retard Manne
Royal Asshole
Jackie AttentionWhorechan
They call up Phase the Crybaby as a substitute just in case and call their team the Imbeciles (lets say Momo is captain so they adopt his idea for a name, Ill use it just as an example for easier explanation, you could name your team whatever you like, even better if its something new so when bracket is announced none knows which team has which players, unless ofc they themselves wanna spoil the surprise and announce their identity before the event starts). Momo sends a PM with his team's name & roster via PM to those 4 or 5 people who organize the event. They gather the info in discretion and make the bracket and announce it in a cup form so it looks something like this:
Imbeciles
vs
Nerdlings
Kuyak Heroes
vs
Sharpshooters
etc, etc.
Lets say the Nerdlings are composed of the devs: chadz, cmpBIMbo, Jacko, Harald, Ozin + Meow. Now - the Imbeciles don't know who the Nerdlings are and vice-versa and none knows what to expect which makes it interesting for everyone present in any form. Matches start, best out of 7 rounds wins and goes to the next round.
For organizers its easy: they do the name check and all they have to pay attention to is that people who were signed actually play, if the name is different its a breach of rules. If you wanna sign your main you must play with main all the way, you can't swap to alt of similar name after you've seen what your opponent has, you can change your complete outfits anyway you like but people must be the same.
Depending on the number of teams it would be either Sunday evening or Saturday/Sunday afternoon, it would be short but efficient and fun. I recon if organized in a right way there shouldn't be any problems.
This is just a general idea, I'll fill it with some extra details if i think of anything worth adding, all possible enhancements are more then welcome, if there is a group of decent honest men ready to step up and make this happen i say go with it. 8-)
