Title: Admins, you need to chill
Post by: Spicules on April 19, 2013, 05:51:10 am
So I'm apparently banned from every NA server for some reason - maybe I was away from my computer after I got killed first round of a defend the virgin round.  So I don't get back to my computer in time for the next round - just kick me.  But if you're going to act like fascists and ban everyone for not paying attention to their computer for a few minutes when the rounds can last up to 5-10 minutes, then you guys seriously need to chill out.  This game looked cool, but if admins consistently act like this then it really isn't worth being around such people.

Hop to spec or disconnect if you are going to be AFK for any length of time.

Going AFK in DTV makes the waves more difficult without actually contributing, and going AFK in battle screws your team out of a player slot (and potentially drags the round out if you are the last person alive - a huge pet peeve of mine).

I banned you for 1 hour, this is like your 4th warning for going afk (from me alone- its not my responsibility to make sure you see each and every one of your warnings not my fault you are not at your computer; most of the time I just kick people for what you have been doing. but 4 warnings? over the course of 2 days?)

Please read these.

Not likely, considering how many rules you have in an online mod.

Behavior rules
No offensive behavior anywhere
Remember that this is the internet. Don't be insulted if someone calls you an idiot.
No offensive character names. If in doubt about a name, pick another one.

General rules
No exploiting of any kind
NOT OK: Bypassing the autobalance
NOT OK: Using a bug to gain undeserved benefits
NOT OK: Leaving and rejoining to server to spawn more than once in a round
No intentional teamwounding/teamkilling during a round (teamkilling friends after a round ends is allowed, teamkilling random people is not)
No malicious griefing of teammates (kickspamming, blocking, etc.)
No drawing/delaying the round on purpose (i.e. running away or camping unreachable places when you're one of the last people alive)
OK: running away and shooting enemies that are reachable by projectiles
NOT OK: running away or avoiding confrontation when there is nobody to shoot in range or everyone is behind cover.
NOT OK: running away or avoiding confrontation to search for ammo
No abuse of in-game chat (racism, insulting, griefing...)
No random kick/ban polls. Always specify reason before starting a poll
OK: poll-kicking a leecher
OK: poll-kicking an intentional teamkiller
NOT OK: poll-kicking someone who involuntarily hurt you
NOT OK: poll-kicking someone because you don't like his playstyle
No leeching
OK: Being a bad player and getting no kills
NOT OK: Standing around away from keyboard. If you're away, switch to spectator mode
NOT OK: Running around without no weapon. Not contributing is leeching, naked runners don't contribute. This point does not apply to Rageball, as long as you are actually playing the game.
NOT OK: Autorunning your char to enemy to die
Glitching is allowed, being an asshat isn't
OK: hiding (e.g. in the hay)
NOT OK: hiding when last man standing (i.e. delaying)
NOT OK: using a siege shield to reach a roof that can't be reached normally
NOT OK: camping unreachable places
NOT OK: exploiting invisible barriers
NOT OK: going out of map bounds (if you can see unfinished parts of the map, then you should not be there)
NOT OK: ladderpulting
No siege equipment spam
OK: Planting ladders to get to roofs or walls
OK: Blocking a door with a construction site
OK: Planting siege shields to provide cover from ranged fire
NOT OK: Creating a weapon rack and spawning more than a few items to block movement
If you're stuck, change team to spectators or rejoin the server, otherwise you will be considered a leecher.

Duel mode specific rules
All types of duels are allowed (ranged, mounted, shield, heavy armor...) if both duelists agree
No following or face-hugging the other duelist before the duel countdown has ran out - either hold your starting position or back-pedal if you want some distance between you and your opponent
No running away or going into unreachable places

Siege mode specific rules
No opening the gates as defender
No stopping on ladders and blocking your team-mates on purpose

And sorry if you people can't sympathize with someone who just started playing - it seems like most of you have chars so high you may not remember dying almost every 1-2nd round.  But I will use that spectator option - never really noticed it before.

A lot of us have gen 1 alts. You'd be a fool to think we don't remember those days, and an even bigger fool for thinking anyone ever has sympathy in this game.

I remember this picture clearly, I don't know who made it or who posted it. But this is c-rpg in a nutshell. We've all experienced being a nub and its the dedication you put into a game that makes you good. Do you really want a game that you're instantly good at? Also, obey the rules.

Autokick is pretty annoying, but it's more than necessary to stop extra bots spawning.
Would be better if people didn't spawn bots when they were spectating.

I love this :D. If done properly, spam can work against non-shit people though. Please add tactical spam to the top thing :D

Also, please forgive my greenery but what is this "chocolate chip cookie" phenomenon?

Haha, if you can't manage sympathy for people just trying to figure out a video game with no tangible rewards, then you're probably emotionally stunted.  And I'm sure all that money and items you earned with your main character doesn't make that process super easy.

You can't use super items on a level 1 char, because of item requirements. So no, items or money does not help a long time player when he retired his char and has to start at level 1 again.

DTV server auto kicks afk players...

Had trouble with that with recording for dtv-video, since it kept kicking specs :P

Spicules, I'd suggest uninstalling the mod and coming back few years later when you are older. Your immaturity is showing. Calling the entire adminteam faschist for you not being capable of following a simple rule and lacking logic of why those other rules exist, is not exactly what normal people do.

Normal people don't expect you to look through a forum to find a page full of rules before you play a video game.  They're all pretty reasonable, but if you warn me a bunch of times not to be afk while I'm dead - well sorry, since I'm afk I'm not going to see it.  And since I'm not around, kicking is quite reasonable.  People notice and kick afk players all the time without admin bans, and I took exception to being banned while the last 5 people spend 10mins killing all the later level spawns.  And if you can't understand the irritation of having people constantly nagging at you to follow random rules and regulations where none are necessary, well - apparently you've never worked in the government.  :?  And I was more bothered because I didn't try to get back on the NA servers for a while, and was just playing on EU servers where I was lag-dying excessively.

spicules, you need to chill a bit. These rules are easy to follow, just use your common sense. Sometimes people only speak the language of 'Kick' apparently you didnt, so the admin swapped to the universal language of 'Ban'. It wasn't a very long ban anyway.

Well if you don't like the rules then play something else. Simple as that. Some people don't like chess so they play draughts instead. Some people even invent their own game and set rules to make it playable.

You follow the rules and derp around inside the barriers of those restrictions. That's what game means! No one wants to play with you if you constantly do stuff that's not allowed. This is kindergarten stuff. Pretty obvious huh?

I told you guys already I looked over the rules and have no problem with them.  But if the admins are just going to spend their entire time playing threatening players with bans and expecting me to obsessively watch all the text run up the left side of the screen well, you guys might want to consider investing in some more tampons .

Dude, as atrocious as i am. I have only had one ban and it was by poophammer thee worst admin by far. I got trolled by aeuro player that came to siege and took the bait and tw him and he posted screens. Its pretty goddamned easy to NOT get banned in this game

We crpg admins do this for free. It is our way of saying "thank you" to the developers and help this mod to maintain a pleasant atmosphere for players. I think that most admins are pretty chill (I know I am :D). When you keep breaking some rule repeatedly time after time even after warnings and/or kicks there is only one way left to get the message across and that's a small ban. It's our job to enforce the rules when we happen to notice stuff like that when we are playing ourselves. It's not like we are only there to spectate everyone all the time and instantly ban everyone who makes a mistake or something.

I'd say 1 hour ban is a mere slap on the wrist (not even that really) so it is you who should chill here. It's nothing to be mad about.

I've been trying to drop it for a while, but apparently you all have too much anger at anyone questioning your numerous rules to do that.  I haven't been banned since, and I try to help the team when I play.  On a related topic, do spawns still appear for everyone else if you go in spectator mode?

Than I quess you are new in the world of Warband online mods. Normally yea, if you just install a game and play it there are peanlties and other stuff stopping you, not much reading needed. But  gamemods where you  usually play online have assloads of rules. Cause moddevs simply dont have the resource and time to make special features to make sure that people play it as intended. I quarantee, this is perfectly normal.

Still thou, it doesnt make them faschists. I dont see them considering one a certain race superior to another or promoting political violence.

Fun fact of the day concerning the term 'Fascism':

''The term fascismo is derived from the Latin word fasces. The fasces, which consisted of a bundle of rods that were tied around an axe, was an ancient Roman symbol of the authority of the civic magistrate.

The symbolism of the fasces suggested strength through unity: a single rod is easily broken, while the bundle is difficult to break.''

(I was aware of this fact but had to revert to Wikipedia for the exact quote :( )

Basically, the core derivation of the term Fascism actually refers to power through teamwork xD (we've all seen the bunch of sticks analogy in various teambuilding exercises). Funny how it's now used to mean anti-democracy, or more generally to mean 'anti whatever i think is correct'.

On an unrelated note EU7 DTV is usually admin free and rarely appears to have these problems, so i guess we can put that in the Marxism-in-action category where the lovely egalitarian society polices and cares for itself. Just like a communist dream, or a bundle of rods that's stronger together than divided xD

This was more of the meaning I was initially intending - absolute rules intended to unify a group by forcing everyone toward the same goal.  Which would be fine for the people who do online games all the time and are hardcore gamers, but for people just getting into this you might get some irritated remarks when they're starting out just dicking around.  Usually I just play some total war games in my off time, but there have been way too many obnoxious kids online for me to get into that arena.
