I'm soon going to retire again giving me a second loom with which I will be able to buy a MW (+3) sword for 2 looms+gold. First I thought of taking the MW claymore because it gets up to 46 cut in swing but people told me the german might be a better idea because of the lolstab and the reach. The danish also comes up in the comments as being a good choice but I feel like the danish is overwhelming the market. So now, I'm hesitating between the german, the claymore and the danish. So your opinions on this?

Which unheirloomed weapon you like best? Play with all of the candidates for a while.
-
If you go Danish GreatSword ... you recieve gold aswell for your 2 loompoints... there is nothing wrong with them, just way too popular before so the market is flooded.
If you are a crafty trader: put up a bid like 2lp for DGS+100K .. it will get filled within a few days is my guess.

What he said, Danish GS is the best one and really cheap, if you're new here I'd definitely buy this one.
-
But im not new, this is my 5th gen and I don't want to make a bad investment cause its probably the last time i retire
-
That decision really depends on you. What 2h swords did you use and how did you like them?
To talk about item's worth on the marketplace, it's quite simple:
Danish Greatsword is the cheapest, and you probably won't even have to pay 2 LP for it. Of course that will need some time, for about 2 LP you probably get it instantly.
There is only a little difference German GS <-> Danish GS: Looks, Danish has slightly more upkeep, 1 more range, 2 cut dmg instead of 2 thrust dmg. I'd say about 60% of your hits are swings, as swings got 3 directions out of 4 available, but maybe you thrust more and like to lolstab. I do, that's why I always prefered the German GS. My first decision to take the German GS, was however its style. :P
The Greatsword is shorter and faster. Never actually tried it(except for a few rounds), but I see some people outspamming me a bit. While using the heavier sword, I just need some patience to beat them then.
I used the Sword of War before, don't buy it for stabs (say, stabs alone..23p unloomed is not much).
I loved Claymore on siege, was amazing there.
Pick one, a German GS is rather easy to trade, compared to a Danish at least. Same goes for SoW afaik, and maybe Greatsword. Danish is far from being rare and you get it for an apple... (not the other way round! x) ). Claymore is not as rare as the Danish, but I managed to get it about 5 times during the last year for good trades. :)
-
Claymore if you want to get sexy :P
-
The problem about the DGS right now is that you won't get rid of it. I would go for the German one if I were you. They are not so different really, and it has a beautiful design too.
The claymore is just too short for my taste. It's good for siege, but not for battle, in my opinion.
-
If you're looking for the best "bang for your buck" in terms of cost -> battle effectiveness, then definitely get a danish cause they are cheap as dirt on the market.
Otherwise if you are looking at the sword as an investment opportunity (you're going to trade it away & try to make money with it on the market) then think about one of the other swords. I'd say highland claymore is more valuable but I've been out of the trading game for awhile.
-
Thing is almost everyone says the claymore is too short and some say the speed gain of the great sword isn't that faster (93 compared to 90) than the german
-
Nodachi.
-
Get the danish since it's so cheap and you're trying to find a weapon to use, not trying to resell on the market
-
What about MW nodachi or war cleaver?

Take real man weapon (2h great bardiche), laugh at avery shielder, one strike for every horse, maximum possible cut damage output.
If you cannot imagine yourself without sword - choose German GS. Stab is great tool on battlefield.
-
German greatsword is only 1 less length than the Danish but it feels much shorter to me, maybe because of the shape of the blade. The cut damage is also a little underwhelming for a greatsword. I'd definitely recommend the Danish over the German, especially since the Danish greatsword is so ridiculously cheap.
However, I'd recommend the claymore over either of them. It's faster AND hits harder. The shorter length may seem like a disadvantage, but consider that you won't always be using it in wide open spaces where you have room to swing. If you're fighting indoors, around obstacles or in a crowd it's much easier to swing a shorter weapon without catching your sword on something in the environment.

If i understood him right, he wants to have thrust and those dont have.
In my opinion the Danish has the most alrounding stats if u dont care the upkeep. If u care the later value for another choice or lesser upkeep, i would take the Claymore.
Maybe u will find some ppl on Duelserver to test both and findout yourself what u prefer.

I would get the German because its stab is way OP. When it is MW it does like
31 29 pierce, and everyone knows lolstab is a staple in a 2h fighting style.
-
Miaodao
- higher damage than the greatswords
- much faster than the great swords
- as long as the great swords
Katana speed, axe damage and greatsword reach
Its only weakeness is the lack of a stab and how boring winning every round might get.
-
Miaodao
Katana speed, axe damage and greatsword reach
It is 4 slower speed then a katana, and 5-9 length shorter then greatswords, with 2-6 damage less then the competitive axes. I think you exaggerated a bit there, though yes the Miaodao is a really nice sword.
Anywho, I suggest the German as it has a really nice stab which is wonderful when coupled with the animations that it has.
