Title: Xbow build for a beginner

My cousin will start playin today. He's a complete noob when it comes down to melee so he wanted to start as a ranged character.

What build would be good for learning?

indeed a good build, it can use the arbalest and has pretty good melee ability.
I suggest trying out the heavy xbow too, its not because its less expensive and does less damage that its worse. It actually is faster and more accurate and for most people thats more worth than 10% more dmg.

18/21 is great fun, both good at range and decent in melee.

And  this build is good if you are new to the game and want to improve your melee skill while you are using crossbows.

I suggest you should get around 100 wpf in melee and rest in crossbow.
