Title: Crouching Shields
Post by: Delson on April 05, 2013, 07:55:08 pm
I was playing and was wondering. . .
When you crouch a lance with a shield, the animation makes your character pick the shield up somewhat like a block. I was wondering if that would block melee attacks.

Personally, I don't usually crouch with a shield. My glutes tend to seize up.

Ive been playing great lancer for a while now. Yes it will block arrows and attacks, however for some reason the sheild comes up at a very bad angle to the point where it is very esay for an archer to just shoot you despite the fact your sheild is up, because it really only protects your left arm in the position its in. It doesnt give anywhere near the protection that you have when your just holding up the sheild yourself. I was dissapointed by this, i thought the sheild in the couch position should be much more effective, cover up your chest and what not instead of jsut your left arm.

It works in essentialy the same way a passive shield will. It does not catch attacks but will catch stray arrows and bolts, but without the benefit of the shield bubble, just ones that directly hit the model.

I want to learn more about grouching shields.  Personally, my shield's disposition is much too sunny and its constant compliments are ruining my immersion in this supposedly grim, medieval battle game.

I think I should have worded it differently.

Where would be the fun in that?

Still you got some good answers:

The shield in couch position is okay at covering you against range on your front/left as long as you keep them there. But I don't remember ever blocking a melee attack with it. Pretty much like how just carrying a shield on foot without blocking can sometimes catch projectiles passively but will never block melee attacks.
