Here is another idea that came to my mind.
Lances are used by one hand on horseback. It gets good reach with that animation. No problems there.
What about a weapon mode to make lances used by both hands on horseback? Very similiar to hafted blade, but only with a thrust and at a small angle only. If we define the angle by clock, I'd say between 10 and 12.
Also, it should be a slower and less damaging attack than usual. So it won't be a noticable edge for lancers over the other types of melee cavalry.

If I'm reading this right, you want an attack that is slower, is also thrust, has a smaller angle, and does less damage?

An alternative attack which does better in closer quarters. Not sure about damage and speed, but it shouldn't give too much of an edge to lancers over other cavalry (1h, 2h); since they already outrange them in the open.

Nope, speaking as a lancer, if you've gone lancer, you're more at range. If you've gone 2h or 1h, you can do better CQC. I don't think lancers should be given this option.

Get of your horse pull back a no shield stab and get back on your horse.
It really is useless and short only the longest lances could really utilise this i think other weapons could do with secondary modes before the lances. Say an unlockable stab for the maces or a few more 1 handers with 2H modes. Or proper "x" secondary modes for bastard swords.
I would love to see asecondary mode for the double sided lance actually wait dw....

Ok this is probably not a good idea as x is used for couching. Too much work for such small benefit probably. I changed my mind, but the thread will stay open for those who want to comment on this.
