Title: Dumb comparison discussion
Post by: Rhekimos on March 18, 2013, 10:14:38 am
I know, I repeat myself but... I do like the game and I do not feel sorry for spending some of my money on it (especially by buying from key seller - no regrets here).
But keep raging about a game you most likely haven't played... makes a really strong impression

People not having lived under the wonderful rule of Kim Jong-un also come off as pretty weak while discussing North Korea.

Take a breather and find something other than insults in your bag of arguments.

Calling an idiot an idiot is stating a fact.
And comparing some computer game with a dictatorship that probably cost a lot of people their lives makes you a pretty big idiot. Besides that such a comparison is hardly an argument but plain douchebaggery... now piss off.

It has nice graphics, cool effects. You see your city alive and stuff but thats all about it. AI is frigging retarted, small city sizes and it seems whatever you do, something always goes terribly wrong.

I havent played the game myself but watched couple of lets play videos of different people. This game needs lots of patching.
Never denied that it's far from perfect. Just a bit annoyed that I don't seem to be allowed to still enjoy it.

I guess car analogies are also bad and "douchbaggery" since traffic costs so many lives every year.

Also comparing some computer game with the computergame industry that probably costs a lot of people their social lives and hardearned cash on totally useless things makes also one a douchebag.

Really?..A person who hasnt  spent cash on worthless items has no buisness discussing about it, even when proper research is done? Its like saying people who havent been shot before have no right on discussing gun violence issues.

To counter which of your posts?

The one where you called me an idiot? The one where you called me a douchebag and told me to piss off? The post that only had an imagemacro?

Claiming that computer games are a special case and should skip normal debate, without explaining why this is so is an example of special pleading, a fallacy.

You obviously have the impression that comparing an inhumane dictatorship with a PC game you don't happen to like is a normal debate, then I simply feel sorry for you.
Feeling sorry for you doesn't change the fact that you still are an idiot imho for even coming up with something like that... and I still would like to see you to piss off... honestly.

You know, feelings don't usually make for good arguments. In this case, your feelings about my comparison don't really invalidate it.
Or give any cover to the point you ignored in your quote.

To put this in another form:

Premise:
I feel bad about your comparison.
(Implicit premise:)
Things that feel bad are incorrect.
Conclusion:
 Your comparison is incorrect.

In case you still haven't noticed: I am not even trying to argue with people like you, hence I do not need arguments.

You are too smart for us Benkei. I for one suggest that you would stop posting entirely, for nothing we shall ever write will compare to the enlightening genius that are your posts. Save that material for your books, no purpose of tiring your brilliant fingers on that cruel keyboard to write your revolutionary ideas to such insignificant worms like us. We are truly unworthy!

Why are you even getting involved now?

What is going to be your next step? Comparing Mickey Mouse with einstein?

Am I seriously the only one that thinks that comparing a minor important game with a murderous dictatorship is completely retarded? Even for crpg standards that is seriously fucked up...

And yes, if those comparisons are the level you guys are discussing on... hell, I do feel superior...  no wait, I am superior than that.

He just made a simple comparison. Whats so fucked up about that? And yes, if you do find something in common with Mikey Mouse and Einstein why not compare them? It's just funny how comparing NKs dictatorship to something minor like PCgaming  is such taboo to you. "People diez in NK, you sick bastard, how darez youz compare it to gaming, you deserve to burn in hell for that!" is basically your point.

And im just getting involved, to force you to write more of your goldeboy genius posts.  For I have no life.

Oh yes, those horrible people who use real life examples to inflict the terrible pain of either appearing inconsistent or also thinking that the West really has no place talking about North Korea.

There's just no talking to people like that, is there?

Just because it's a game forum at large, doesn't mean we can't step out of the fantasy land. However nice remaining there would be.

And yes, if those comparisons are the level you guys are discussing on... hell, I do feel superior...  no wait, I am superior than that.

Good for you.

Kafein, it's time to rename this thread the political comparisons argument thread.

"principle of proportionality" - ever heard of that?

"principle of proportionality" - ever heard of that?

Did you mean some other term?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Principle_of_proportionality

"The principle of proportionality is a political maxim which states that no layer of government should take any action that exceeds that which is necessary to achieve the objective of government (Regardless of intent of objective). It was initially developed in the German legal system."

Addition works equally well for 2+2 and 200000000+200000000. In seeking the truth, we sometimes take abstractions from the small to the bigger picture, or the other way around. Sometimes it's successful, sometimes not.

There, however, needs be to a reason why it wouldn't work.

Does not the same principle of gravity work for both basketballs and planets?

To get back to this case, we're talking about whether you need to have experienced X to be able to make a valid point about X. You used it for a computer game. But if we replace it with, say, senators talking about the pay of senators, they are probably always going to say that they should be paid more. Or maybe with death, if you haven't experienced death, your opinions about death don't count. This makes no sense.

Maybe my comparison lacked tact and was inconsiderate, but nevertheless if the principle of "you need to have experienced X to be able to make a valid point about X" fails in one instance (or in a quite bit more), we should reconsider just how good a principle it is.
