Title: Intense snow storms in Hungary, country-wide Disaster.

A few days ago, without any warning, intense snow storms hit the Country.
Winds are intense, roads are impossible to take, more than 200.000 people are without electricity, some towns are impossible to reach.

Some people are stuck in the snow for almost 1-2 days now, and the Minister only called out an alarm NOW.
The town where I am is fine, but the one next to me is locked and even the Snow-Clearing vehicles/Buses/Cars are either immobilized or stuck in some pit next to the road.

Messages are coming in from people stuck with little 1-4 year old children being stuck for more than 20 hours now, without any sign of help whatsoever. I'm not religious, but these people really need help now, and even the army is mobilizing now with armored vehicles.

Question is, why now? The snow storm hit the country TWO DAYS AGO.

The incompetence of our leadership is just painful, I bet some people died already because of their idiocy.

but ye, strange the time of year and all, guess its the last cramp from the winter before spring take over :)

Also huge respect to those who help, the incompetence of our leadership made the people set up a network of shelters and help eachother using the internet alone. Guys, why do we even need a government?  :)

Sure, it wouldn't have been a problem at all if the Ministry doesn't fuck around and actually does it's job at warning the people early.
And not sending out mass-warning SMS to people about it when it's too late.

I'm telling you no forecast I've seen told about this, at all. I wonder if the people responsible will take the blame at all or deny it.

Man whatever this meteorological phenomenon is called, It is HUGE. Such amounts of snow in march is quite unusual, here at least.

We've had like 3 or 4 reports for Minnesota from him about blizzards, so I'm always prepared for the weather.

Isn't there a news/weather service that sees these storms coming like a week ahead of time?

Either way...looks like some people will be going HUNGARY for a while if they can't get food!  GET IT?

Clearly Hungarians didn't believe what the Starks always say... Simple snow can be pretty devastating to countries that don't have the resources to deal with it...

Hmm probably those died in traffic accidents... I can only imagine the chaos... I mean here in Finland some people drive like morons even if the weather clearly doesn't allow you to drive faster. They do it anyways and then there is a news title "Weather surprised the drivers". Fucking bullshit, it's slippery and bad visibility at the same time of the year every year! I believe it more easily if that's said in Hungary tho...

The roads were/maybe still are completely icy out there.

And -15celsius cold night is coming. Geez.

In Croatia there was snow too, nothing too extreme like this but i can imagine what happened more up north

Alright, this SMS got here by.. about 20:00. Good job.

And I don't even own a car, they just spammed this to all providers.

This image tells me, Austrian "winterdienst" are effective to say the least. Snow feared them so much it escaped from the picture.

Two days ago, while I was driving home with my brother lighting struck a building 50 meters away from our car. I was blind for few seconds (white all over my eyes). Rain started, turned to ice for few minutes. Next day (yesterday), it was my birthday. I was sad because it was raining the whole night, but I didn't expect to see snow outside... day was complete garbage. Today, there's snow everywhere and I'm having a cold (being extremely sensitive to sudden and extreme weather changes is crap).

I wanted to go outside, to celebrate my birthday with family in the park...

Now, as far as I know almost everyone got rescued, and some roads are usable again.
Public transportation works, but not like clockwork.

Thankfully the wind storm is over and the snowing also stopped.

Aand as I've expected.

The President held a meeting combined with a dinner last night, told everyone to "eat well, there's no Hungarian in the country who cannot eat or have shelter now, everyone is rescued"

5 minutes after this speech is delivered and a video is published to FB, police report still mentions people stuck on roads, huge snow walls and Buses full of people, and that they are struggling to save them.

Fuckin' politics.

one of my former classmates is among those people, that's why I'm really upset. I hope he's safe, and got home by now.
last time we chatted he was stuck for more than a day

a couple friends and me had this tradition back in the college day where we BBQ in the snow :D beers, "snaps" and loads of meat. we did use coats and stuff though, we didn't do it half naked like these hardcore fellas :p I highly recommend BBQ in high snow. its awesome and beers are kept cold :)

Have same thing here. Snow at the end of march is ridiculous. I hope It doesn't go through April. Rains almost every day here in April.
