chadz: cant build ladders on ladders (removed skyladders)
jacko: Maps added
I tried going on EU3 duel to see how it worked but ladders aren't even on duel (No idea why). So I was thinking, if skyladders don't exist anymore why not add ladders back to Seige? If I remember correctly the main reason for getting rid of ladders was because of the skyladdering over the walls and attackers dropping down on the walls from an unreachable ladder. If this is now gone I would love to see the ladders reintroduced into seige.
Also if they are introduced maybe have a limit on how many can be placed at one time? Also with rules for admins to follow incase there are other ways of exploiting ladders.
It's just a thought, I loved when the ladders were first put in. Made siege a lot more fun.

Even without skyladdering, they still unbalance a lot of maps.
First example that comes to mind would be the flat spread desert town that leads you through certain streets with roadblocks. Adding ladders would make going straight from the gate over the barricade and straight over the wall into the flag area trivial.
Many other maps would also suffer

Good point but nothing the defenders couldnt solve? They could break the ladder. I imagine that being a problem before because you could build a little skyladder over the barricade that the defenders couldnt break. Now without skyladders the ladders should always be in an area the defenders can deal with.

Ladders break siege maps too. You can reach places that are otherwise unreachable, often guaranteeing a free win for attackers.
-
Anywhere that attackers can reach with ladders, defenders can reach with ladders of their own. When I played cRPG for the first time, I was amazed in seige when people could put ladders wherever they wanted. It made the game feel so much more sand-boxy, and free. I was devistated when ladders were removed, and I full heartedly believe that they should be added back in. Ladders benefit both attackers and defenders. All it takes is someone smart enough to see the full potential of where well placed ladders can get you to more easily defend or attack a certain castle.
-
I would really love to have ladders back in siege but i do think it'd unbalance it. Ladders can make it way to easy for attackers to quickly take the outer walls and forcing defends to camp the flag early.
I do miss the old days of siege when even pubbies understood how to defend properly, but i think they are long gone.
-
Cool now everyone can throw siege ladders to get them onto rooftops and across giant gaps.
-
I would not mind them being reintroduced, but as I said already, they would change the balance in siege a lot. It also allows for many more griefing opportunities. (the hatred when you place a perfect ladder only to have it destroyed by an asshole teammate seconds afterwards...)
Anti ladder ladders would also become problematic, like in strategus.
With active admins, and people willing to revisit maps and make adjustments, it could work. But I am not sure that it is worth the effort.
-
I too miss ladders very much in both Siege and battle. Although the ability to grief will be too great. It will also unbalance maps on siege to the point of "Those 5 maps" will be the only 5 maps because they are balanced even with ladders.
No matter what rules we set up, people will break them. Take one thing out, people will find another thing to exploit about them. It's just how people are.
If exploitation didn't exist then there would be no point of rules or laws. Existence would be null.

Ladders are awesome!

In NA this can only be balanced by the number of players. Tons of players makes ladders less effective, as there is always someone who sees it and easily get teamates to jump it. All the while still having a strong group of teammates on flag. Too few players, attack will surpass all chokepoints and win 95% of the time.

With the introduced 30-minute castle that just can't be conquered, the ladders might help to balance it. Now the only practical ways to get up to eastern wall are up ladders, above which perfectly protected maulsmen can deal with any invasion.
