Title: Scottish Armor
Post by: Draeth on May 01, 2011, 12:43:26 am
not sure if has been mentioned but i was thinking of a Scottish kilt armor maybe even like a kilt over chain mail
i think it would be an awesome armor piece since we already have weapons like the highland claymore and Scottish sword.
what are your thoughts and, or suggestions?

No arguments here.
It would be something I would like to see.
A full on great kilt with leather chest armour would be a wonderful addition to the light armour range.
You wouldn't really need heavier armour as most scottish armour was imported from mainland europe anyway, but perhaps mail with a tartan sash or something over it?
One thing I would also like would be a basket hilt claymore, be it a broadsword or backsword model.
To me those are far more iconic than the angled quillon of the scottish sword in the game at the moment.
Perhaps even a targe? Though I don't know how much interest there would be for a small light wooden shield.

heres the scottish armor pack, i think scots belong to multicultural middleages too...
and this is scottish pikeman armor from 'with fire and sword' i think if devs could remove the white collar it would look like a great scottish medieval armor, it has arround 36 body armor and about 16 leg armor:

I don't think you're allowed to import stuff from With Fire and Sword into Warband.

To be honest I was rather surprised when I saw the "scottish armour" from With Fire and Sword, I guess I shouldn't be as tartan is the easiest visual way to show they are Scottish I guess.
I mean tartan trews (and jackets) were worn but so were a lot of other things depending on use, cost and availability.
The more muted earthy coloured ones like in that picture are okay, but the full on bright red "Stewart" tartan probably isn't very in keeping with what a regular foot soldier would have.
Also the caps/bonnets in WFaS are good , they go with any of the more generic armours to add a bit of a Scottish touch to the visuals.

The Scottish armor (not from wfas) is quite intricate and of high quality; I support its inclusion.

Aye it is very nice, probably a bit of an early period design but still the more the merrier in my opinion.
Not to mention they would all be fairly light armours which is good, I think this game could do with a few more light armours.

Im pretty sure the person that made the Claymore has already made Scottish clothes and armor, but it wasnt included in c-rpg. You could always suggest that to be put in

Another thing from With Fire and Sword, I wonder if it would be possible to bring the way the Claymore is held over from that.
In cRPG the Claymore is held very much at the bottom of the hilt, I don't know if that's just due to the skin or the basic model used or whatever, meanwhile in WF&S it is held up near the quillons which is more accurate.
Okay I know that is a tiny little thing that doesn't affect gameplay in any way so should be really far down on the devs lists if it can't just be fixed with a few minutes work.
