So, I haven't played the original Shadowrun, but the optional missions bug me.
I have only played to the point where I am saving Coyote with Paco.
The optional missions give karma, however, if you're playing an 'evil' guy, you won't accept those missions, right? Because you don't give a shit about a hobo or the friend of a dead woman.
If you're being a dick, can you still get those karma without being nice?
my main issuses are still the saving system and that the combat mode does not end until you leave the map.
the later reveals bad scripting, when a event is triggerd only if the whole squad has reached a specific point. to be more specific, during a mission i was trapped in a dead alley, and the new path came only available as i have moved all of my runners to the previous room.
and the ui, notably the loadout screen is a bit comfortless. i have missed filter options for consumables.
the story so far, well it has started quite interesting, but then ...
yeah, i have to save the world ... again.
especially the last part with the bugs seems to be a ripoff of the 2xs shadowrun novel.
So I was right at the end and completed it now, ended at 21 hours played. Good game, bit of a shame about the story after the Ripper is killed and the whole bug stomping part comes in.
Its a shame the RPG side was actually not as well developed as it could have been. I don't think the charisma skill really matters much at all besides getting some extra cash bonuses randomly. I didn't see many options requiring high skills, think it was 5 the highest I saw. I just pumped all my points into Body, Quickness and Rifles. The skills you unlock aren't even that useful in combat, just did burst fire on everything and they dropped fast. Didn't need anything else really though I got enough points to cast heal and haste. Had like 30 or 40 karma left unspent at the end. There wasn't really as much choice in missions or how you progress as I would have liked. At the end its hinted at more DLC to come if you speak to a certain character which would be nice to see
All in all its a pretty solid game and the length is probably about right
