Title: Did polearms die out? (not spears)

Or is it just me?

I started a Thrower build with polearm wpf thinking i could use my throwing lances in melee or just throw them all then pick a sexy 4 directional polearm on the floor.
It is only when i arrived on the battlefield that the harsh truth hit me : 1h sword and maces everywhere, 2 handers everywhere...but no polearms some spears here and there from hoplites but that's all!

Where did all the polearms go? Think about it, when was the last time you came across a a polearm from the poleaxe family? a GLA? a long hafted blade? Ok you saw one, a lonely 4 directionale polearm user among 50 players on eu 1?

Another point, today on the strat battle i had the worst time trying to swing a bec de corbin, glancing off people around me or on the roof while morningstars were spamming their way through mobs and roofs.

what do you think?

dunno, im pure throwing atm and id say half the time im picking up a glaive/spear/long hafted blade :D I guess its just down to luck

Lactose, I see 'em a lot, only on lancers or EU_3 s-key glaivers most of the time though.

I have no idea what you're on about this time, Lactose. Maybe there's been a slight reduction in favor of hoplites, but other than that I don't see it.

Polearmers probably reacted to the amount of cav and archers by going piker and hoplite, which serve an important function in the team. Maybe even only for a few rounds.

I am a proud owner of a Mighty GLA alas I am too stupid to use it properly. Therefore it's taking dust in my cabinet.

It seems so long that I am afraid to teamhit all the time so I am... reluctant to use it atm  :oops:

I will admit I see less and less pure polearm characters daily. Usually shielders or 2h. But I do see plenty of polearm cav.

Due to polestun being removed and the generally inferior animations, a lot of "pure combat" polearmers switched to two hander unless they really love the style of a particular weapon or want the horse-rearing stuff (+140 length weps).


There are still a few, but yeah there is a noticeable reduction.

2H ignore collisions with both agents and objects a lot more than polearms. Which is a huge deal, just look at the amount of semi-crappy players that do extremely well on siege with 2h, you rarely see one with a polearm though.

^ Polearms have yet to be compensated for the loss of the stagger, and 2d polearms are still gimped (NA side at least, not sure what changes are on EU-1 in regards to turn radius, if they make things better or even worse for them) from the turn changes on overheads/stabs.

Still, there are definitely dedicated polearm dudes out there still, albeit perhaps in smaller numbers as Tears mentioned. As my dear sweet Wolfgang says, "1h is bad; 2h is for bads; polearms are all we have".

Alt mode of Poleaxe is still pretty good,  30B and 31P. But my build has 0 IF and 5 shield soo I stick with shield mostly.  If I had more strength and iron flesh i would be willing to run around and get hit by ranged.

Pole stab got quite a few nerfs, and 2 hander axes got buffs (as well as other 2 handers).

Ranged still very prevalent, and since the last patch we see mostly Longbows since they got buffs. PD at 6+ doesn't affect WPF as much too.

Cav got some nerfs so maybe there are fewer anti cav poles. I don't think GK are as active atm

So I just think the current meta favours defence against ranged, and 1 handers aren't shabby at all in damage/range.

We are seeing attrition in pure melee without shield classes in general, so you naturally see the guys with shields more

not any more. i thought they had the poleaxe stats perfect.....the pole axe is thee ultimate medieval weapon, it could thrust cut and bash and excelled at each of these areas all while being lightweight

they had the poleaxe perfect......now its just a spear with a decent cut....another weapon with a COMPLETELY useless secondary...in fact...the poleaxe was the ONLY weapon i used secondary...it was great..it felt like a pole axe should..it felt like i could handle any situation..

if it wasnt for thrust there would be no reason not to use german pole....and the elegant?            i sold it in disgust

I retired and without any polearm looms I decided to try out something different and chose pole.  I don't regret the decision per se but I grew accustomed to 2h after all these years.  Glaive was reduced to 89 from 90 speed, which is what I preferred in battle, but the nerf isn't too noticeable.  All in all, this gen taught me how to appreciate polearms as a powerful weapon class despite the inevitable cross comparison to 2h.  I will admit that my K/D has dropped quite a bit since making this transition, though.

Glavie was a very well balanced weapon. All i asked was slight crushthrought to make it slighty better balanced. I git nerf insted so mod is ded :(

I have the exact smae problem with that thing, it's just too wild! Only a mighty warrior like Tor can use it to its full extent!
