Hoplites fucking suck. We do no damage, we thrust slowly, and we can attack in only one direction. It sucks, but it's fun, and it should be made not to suck, I think.
Buff damage, or speed, or both! Anything, my god, so long as its buffed. The biggest problem is the amount of damage that hoplites do--that is, not enough. Buff warspear thrust damage? Undo the evil shield damage nerfing?
I say this now because I just started reading the Iliad, and all those mother fuckers are using spears. Read...
Whirling, killing Coeranus, Chromius and Alastor, killing Alcander and Halius, Prytanis and Noemon— and stalwart Odysseus would have killed still more but tall Hector, his helmet flashing, marked him quickly, plowed through the front, helmed in fiery bronze, filling the Argives’ hearts with sudden terror.
Odysseus just killed seven fucking people, and he's a hoplite. Hoplites need a buff so that we can all be like Odysseus.

I completely agree, a masterpiece of an argument on why we undeniably need to buff Hoplites.
I can't even begin to make a counter-statement without being refuted by what you have already written, indeed, I am already swayed by your argument and am a complete supporter of this cause!

Don't generalize. I do fantastic as a hoplite, as do many other players.
Instead of balancing the game around you, how about you just learn to play a hoplite properly?

Are you sure there isn't something wrong with how you're playing the class? Yes, you will never get as many kills as a pro 2h player (and you shouldn't, from the standpoint of game balance), but you can be a major contributor to your team's victory if you're patient, aim well, and focus on covering the attacks of your teammates rather than trying to be a hero yourself.

I was pretty sure the OP was a joke, but if it's not.. then I don't know what to believe. As a hoplite, probably my favorite place to be is next to a Strength + Armor friendly like Soss or Tretter. People spend so much time focusing on killing those dudes that you can get tons of free hits/kills out of it.

As a part-time hoplite I'll say is that the shield+polearm class may not be perfect, but it is by no means weak.
It's one of the strongest support builds available right now (arguably the most universally potent), being more durable than a pikeman and longer reaching than a 1h shielder. It can stop horses and is more versatile than a polearm without a shield - after all, you can still put the shield away at a whim!
Hell, I only have 2 shield skill and that's enough to turn my build into an arrow-resisting horse-rearing team-assisting menace.
If anything, a buff to hoplites should encourage use of the shorter weapons available to them, because right now there are really only a handful (around five) of viable hoplite weapons. Buff forks (okay, maybe not battle fork), buff shortened spear, buff spear, buff boar spear, buff staves, buff practice lance, buff double sided lance, un-nerf military scythe? Buff halfswording hoplites?!?

There is a great way to improve them. Lets be honest. Physx at M&B are total crap and when hoplite or fallen cav guy have to fight 1h spammer he cant do almost anything. You may kick, but untill you kick he can move 3 metres sidewalk untill 1 sec(realistic animation physxs ftw).
Whats the solution? Shield smash. You could counter enemy at exact time when his weapon hits the shield(something familiar to weapon hits weapon system). That would help distract enemy and give you enough time to do recounter or move little backwards.
