Dunno, i just read that Hbo bought the tvserie, atleast thast what i read. But it might be true that they bought it from "The history channel"!

Hah, they have that Finnish weightlifter from Kingdom of Heaven playing a Finnish viking. He still has the same outrageous accent. :lol:

Seems that it might be not only the first proper tv series but first proper viking movie in general. If they don't fuck it up by turning it into soap opera like Walking Dead or gore and tits for teenagers like Spartacus it might be just right. Keep fingers crossed and think Rome.

saw the first ep,  was entertainnig.  just hope they wont go all holywood on the show and stick to less show,  more story and a good amount of realism.

Watched the first two episodes the other day, it's good but not amazing ( atleast not yet ), i.e many of the characters are just cheesy and some bad acting going on lol. But I still enjoyed it, the story concept is pretty good and I imagine once the characters are expanded upon more it will be much better. Looking forward to watching next episode, I guess once Game of Thrones is on I'll be watching both of these one after another, well, Game of Thrones comes first though lol.

On a serious note: In HBO I trust (ever since Rome, they made Rome very entertaining to watch while still remaining historically accurate). Going to give this one a go.

The 'Vikings' series was made for History Channel not HBO.
HBO bought the series from History Channel.

The only file I found for the 3rd episode is some bad quality web rip, did you really watch that web episode or did you manage to find a better quality one? if not I'm waiting til it's aired on tv and downloading a better quality one lol, got the first two in much better quality than this one.

Was a normal 720p not a bad webrip. (and I know how the webrips look Ive watched ep2 as webrip and q was pretty bad)

Looks like all 3 episodes are available on IMDB's website for the show (from the link in the OP)

Like it thus far.

Don't mind that they merged the Lodbrok saga with the first chronicled Viking raids, but that few believe in a 'land to the West' is far fetched considering the mass emigration of Angles, Jutes and other Western Scandinavians to the British Isles for millennia prior to the series' start. May be an expression of the commonplace misunderstanding that water divided instead of connected people and nations in earlier ages. If not memorized in runes at least the strong tradition for tribal history songs would have remembered, either by shamans, priests or skalds, but more likely there was already long established trade routes between Eastern English, Scottish and Irish provinces and west coast Denmark and Norway.
It probably also plays on Vikings as explorers (Greenland, Iceland, Newfoundland, North America etc.) and the whole discovery, 'Go West', Columbus myth, particularly popular with an American audience.

Really hope the series will include Ragnar's siege of Paris in 845AD (http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/source/843bertin.asp), and not be too Anglo-centric (considering much of the Danish foreign policy at the time of Ragnar Lodbrok was directed at the Frankish Empire on mainland Europe).

I like it. The acting is tolerable and the story is good. Also like the scenery. Looking forward to watching the rest of the EPs.

He obviously can't because it would be messing with the time, thou cannot foresee the consequences. It's a great feeling when you go back to check on a thread you spent time crafting to make it good and informative because the previous thread on the subject was clueless and you see that some mod who misunderstands his job found it suitable to merge them.

Hmm... It is entertaining, no doubt, but I can't get rid of a feeling, that i am seeing a bunch of modern americans wearing leather cloth, not a viking tribe. Pretty sure they were clapping hands when the ship arrived from the first trip. :( And Ragnar's wife... Omg... Wearing mascara 24/7, fighting and beating men -_- She is a little skinny bitch ffs! Remember that huge female-knight from Game of Thrones? That is how i imagine a female warrior, it is not even about her physical appearance, but her warrior attitude. And btw, not that i am an expert on ancient vikings, but their armor looks like something from Lord Of The Rings. 
 
Especially annoying in the last episode! Jokes aside, why would they not rape every female in that town?.. They took some gold, killed few men, and NOONE got assraped?? Never happened in history! EVER! Not with vikings, not anyone! If you conquer something - you rape and take slaves, no exceptions!

Imo it is still the best new series of 2013, thought it seems to be made to entertain, and i doubt it's historical value... Might be wrong of cause, vikings are not really something i know much about

Yeah, true. I think the only mail I've seen them wearing so far was hanging off someone's crotch, not really protecting much of anything. The whole battle scene with the Saxons was pretty retarded as well.

Yes, and the lack of helmets in a History channel production is pretty retarded. This was the most important piece of armament after weapon(s) and shield, yet very, very few of the Vikings wear it. Scandinavian leiðangr (conscription form for free farmers) laws from the early Middle-Ages decrees the helmet as a requirement for any armed man in the fleet, this is a few centuries after the Viking Age but the leiðangr is at least as old as the Vikings.
