why should it?

why should it?
like irl it should

Shouldn't spears stay stuck in bodies? Shouldn't axes get stuck in shields? Shouldn't wood-hafted polearms break when hit repeatedly? It wasn't unheard of for swords to snap either.

Actually all lances, if used to couch, would likely break or be stuck so far into a body they would have to be discarded. That's why knights had to carry sidearms.
I think it would be cool if this was put in to the game, just like how shields break. Sure, all weapons can break, but its much more likely for lances and shields to get beat up.

Realism, yes. Gameplay, I feel as though this should stay out.
If they were to do something like this, then they would have to buff all lances to the point of one shotting from couches no matter what. Which would then make the great lance "Almost" useless considering it already does this. People would start using other lances with the default attack rather then couching.
It would cause a lot of problems in gameplay. Although, if implemented for realism it would make sense.
My opinion: No thank you.

It would be nice to have something similar to shield bonus for cavalry. But instead of shields it's used for lances, and instead of giving a bonus to shield skill it gives a bonus to the horse speed and armour. Especially horse armour needs a considerable bonus.
Perhaps we would see nice cavalry charges in a close line again. But with the current system it would be pure suicide.
Don't take this too serious, I am just fooling around a bit.

how about after couching the lance is dropped where it couched with a small chance to break
