Title: practice?
Post by: bagele on February 22, 2013, 05:07:33 pm
Is there anywhere I can practice basic junk like blocking, ranged, being cav, etc? I know I can probably practice blocking on a native duel server against ai or something but im not sure about the others. Is there some way I could do something offline with CRPG?

Some single player mod had training grounds where you could practice chambering. Also, native single player has the arena where you can fight many opponents at once, ofc they ai is so horrible that I don't think it will be very useful in the end.

You can practive cav by joining a duel server (when there is a good amount of ppl on, like before a strat battle) and just riding around lancing people.  You lance will go through them, but you can learn the timing and movement of the horse.

You can do the same with ranged.  Again, you don't get the same feedback, but you can generally tell if you get a hit or not.

Alternatively, siege is a great server to practice on...because of the respawn you spend less time dead and more time playing.  Not so good for cav tho.

Join the duel server and tell people you are new and would like to practice. Some of them will ignore you or just go all out and try to kill you in duels, but this is one thing that really helped me improve. Dueling someone who will go easy on you and tell you how you can improve is more helpful than just practicing the mechanics of the game.

You'll learn more when someone is critiquing your play compared to just trying your best until it works.

Imo sp training grounds are more efficient, dont attack them unless you want to chamber and keep blocking blocking walking around so the npc will hit you from different angles. Just to get the directions in your system, if you want to learn footwork go duel. :)  :)

Native sp training grounds :)

Yea, that might work for getting some blocking practice.

Too bad duel server doesnt have training dummies so we could get the feel for reach and stuff.

Theyre actual moving npcs who also chamber(allthough by accident it seems), so reach training is viable, its just that he will chase you around so footwork isn't really improving.

S key kicking doesn't count no_rules_just_2_directions!  :P

This! I want it for practicing cav drive-bys / swing length.
