Title: WAR TUNES
Post by: Commodore_Axephante on February 15, 2013, 06:25:34 pm
I'm actually an Indie music nerd, but when seeking a berserker state of mind, I find that metal, hard rock, heavy backbeats and a deep melodic rhythm is best. To that end I'm building myself a perfect mix for strat battles. It's still a work in progress - I'm namely looking for a "finisher" song for when victory is eminent. Thought I would share / open it up to comments and suggestions. Enjoy!
For the roll-call/prep stages just before battle: Nine Inch Nails: Just like you imagined:
For the opening / beginning of the battle: Coheed and Cambria: Welcome home (instrumental remix)
For the push: Dethklok: Go Into The Water:
For the last ten minutes, if you are certainly going to lose: Mars Volta: Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt:

Who doesn't have a battle playlist 8-)
Fast paced folk metal works quite well for chases with a smell of victory in them. Or just blood lusted berserk rushes.
If you want something more of a heroic victory this might do

Not metal, but Secret Chiefs 3 makes me want to spill blood in the sand.
Another desert-y tune.
Beirut makes me want to defend my peasant hovel.
Grails is for when I am witching about:
Listen to those drums and tell me you don't want to go to war:
edit: If you really must have something more rock/metal...

Sabaton: Long live the king http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoJm0RSogoQ
Sabaton: Long live the king Swedish version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSae4M3oD-g
Playing Crpg and listening to Sabaton is epic.

Saxon - your stuff is so triumphant - makes me realize how comparatively dark my selections were. WITCH - you've got stuff there that I actually want to use to replace generic game music - especially the desert stuff. Cenewulf - eclectic mix of paces there, man. I would be curious to observe the differences in your fighting to each song :)
Here's some non-metal selections of my own, just to vary it up a bit:
Sabaton: Long live the king http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoJm0RSogoQ
Sabaton: Long live the king Swedish version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSae4M3oD-g
Playing Crpg and listening to Sabaton is epic.
Dude I've never listened to Sabaton before - my entire relationship with them was based around this one time I tried to buy actual Sabatons (the foot-armor part of platemail) to fit over my sneakers, because I'm cool like that, and all I could find was pictures of those dudes on stage, haha.
Now I know what they're about!

Thor Oden's son Protector of mankind Ride to meet your faith... (Do I need to say more? Perfect to start a battle)
These Tyr songs might be good and laid back enough to listen while consentrating on virtual killing 100%.
If you lose a battle:
Here, I've got you THE VICTORY song.
Here's that same song live. Best song ever.
Here is some music from the Norske bros if you rage and want to bash some skulls in.

Anything by Warsaw Village Band is great background music to M&B. all of Book M by Secret Chiefs 3 is great start to finish as well.

For being into Bill Evans? Absolutely not. For thinking it's appropriate war music? Yes, that's very, very weird.

Might I suggest the Battlefield 2 Theme song. I know it sounds stupid but it fits very well into the medieval type of music, surprisingly, in any scenario.
