Ok so I know it is a support build but as it stands (and with the slot system) it becomes pretty poo. Higher req spears / more slots. The good shields 2 slots, so no space for even a bad sword unless you go for a bad shield.
Since another attack direction for spear/shielders is unlikely can't we make them a more viable class?
All the best,
Griff

There are still a lot of decent shields that take only one slot (heavy norman, heather, kite, and round, though I'm not sure the latter really is 1 slot).
As far as I know, only board and huscarl shields take 2 slots (I might be wrong though, didn't try a lot of them).
-
Thats true, but its just another nerf for an already underpowered class. It's hardly worth building I just wish it could be an actual class instead of just a for fun build.
-
Added: Price and requirements for 1 handed spears went up. Red Tassel is slightly weaker slightly faster warspear.
Please make this class not the most nerfed already underpowered underused class in the game.
-
I've always wanted to play some kinda spartan style, and i did that on my alt prepatch. Huscarl shield, warspear and the short nordic war sword, its kinda weird they made spears take 2 slots, some polearms could be 1 slot, atleast thats my thoughts!

I know, its sad that its not taken advantage of in this game. We got so many samurais and ninjas running around why not? :D

Tell this thread to _PGI
we'll laugh at you.
We're loving the hoplites --although we roam in packs of 2 or 3. never alone, and effective in battle.

It is a bit stupid how spears take 2 slots imo :P they are versatile but not particularly strong in any field of combat, 1 slot spears plz :D

Any of the spears under 150 length should be 1 slot

Something simple like that would be nice, its a fun class to play but it sucks that its not really a viable choice even comparable to either of its counterparts.
I have a hoplite and it is fun to play, in a group especially. But it feels like exactly that, a fun class that is a bit of banter to play around with, not something you see regularly though.
Weaker than usual gear
Not viable 1v1
Good in groups, but whats it got that someone with polearm cant bring x10 better.
1 attack direction
High requirements for spears, unless you want to use the requirement 6 spear you MUST basically always have 12 strength for a war spear/ red tassel / awl. So builds around 9/27 are impossible, hard when you really need that speed to be able to step in and out of range.
It just seems unnecessary for what could be a really interesting and fun build (especially when strategus comes back). Spears were pretty underpowered in the single player too, what have brothers got against a man a spear and his shield.

Any spear up to 150 length should be yes :D as i really dont see the war spear being worth 2 slots :P maybe awlpikes and pikes should be 2 slots but not spears which are among the weakest weapons in game :P

The heavy board shield has a requirement of 4 shield skill and takes 1 slot. It has 600 hp, covers your entire front and can take a ton of arrows/blows. Even from shieldbreakers.
Best shield in the game imo.
-
Agree with Spawny about the hb shield. However it seems bit too slow for effective spear n board user imho. Fast is a key in that role, otherwise you will hit friends more than foes.
-
speed is key, or anyone can just spam you till your shield breaks. You have to be able to stab fairly fast, the HB is too slow.
-
Worst thing is apart from being drastically underpowered, not many people use the class so there is not much call to make it more viable. I hope someone finally makes this a new class (takes a lot more skill than constantly spamming someone).
