TBH I haven't noticed all that many Kuyaks on NA, but the Light Kuyak has an A:W of 3.28 and the heavy is 3.14... nothing beats that? hmm.

Generally, the lighter the armor, the better the ratio.
Sometimes they throw in more leg armor and that is used as a "balance", but if you don't care about leg armor (which most dont) then you want to avoid the ones that have a decent amount of it, because most likely that extra leg armor was "taken from" the body armor value to make it balanced.
And yes, this is why Sarranid Guard Armor and Kuyak's are so popular

...does anyone have a basic suggestion about how much armor one needs before they start to actually sense a difference from being naked?
I mean, I feel like you'll get 1-shotted just the same in anything thinner than a certain AC...
Please share your experiences, if you have any insight on that.

i think heraldic transitional can be considered for this

All armors about 9-10 weight have great armor/weight ratio

Running around in 52 armour.
Being naked with 5 IF is pretty much the same as 0 IF and 52b armour. Greatswords and 2h/pole axes 1hit me, archers 2hit. Only thing that I actually note a difference with is 1h weapons.... when they don't hit my head.
