Title: Heraldic/colored armor petition. vote and sign.

Below are a number of threads that somehow or another allude to what many of us have been dying for: colored and/or heraldic armors. im putting this up here because its been requested ad nausium, and I'm tired of threads like these being drowned by everything and forgotten.

This thread is assuming that only CERTAIN ITEMS will be able to change color or have heraldry, not ALL of them, as that would be too tedious and frankly, quite rediculous. heraldic wedding dresses anyone?

all these models exist on the taleworld forums in some shape or fashion, and can be easily intergrated. above are some options for this to be added. if you agree with this, sign below, petition style. perhaps now we can finally get these in.

I can make a better heraldic brigandine than the one in that link. I even might, if I had any hope of getting it ingame any time soon. But it takes the devs forever to implement new items, so I can't bring up the motivation to do any work.

Would like to see this happen. I'd love for someone to make a light-weight armor for archers that still shows their heraldic tabard. There's nothing like that, and it's been asked for many times (in game I know of, on forums, not sure).

This requires that banners are solid color (exact same color as chosen in background color script) + symbol. As you can see on the screenies, it doesn't work well if the banner includes large areas with different color than background color. This is not something that can be changed, unfortunately. You can still do multi-color backgrounds, but it will look probably better if you only do it in a square area around the symbol, and not over the whole banner. I can whip something up later if this is a concern.

Unfortunately, this is not all that is needed to fix the current heraldic mail armors. We need a texture artist that can paint some cloth background into those textures (preferably grayscale). This is the fault of TW that created horrible blurry undetailed backgrounds on those armors. That said, the mail with surcoat depicted here could also need a bit more details...it's a bit plain IMO.

I think that around 15 armors we have currently in cRPG could be turned into a heraldic version with this method.

Just an update: cmp has mentioned in IRC that he doesn't like heraldics on brigandine and other armors that don't have a proper area to display the banner.

Do you ever think you could release a pack, or perhaps step by step info on how to do this yourself? I play alot of native so I would love to see some of this in my game play.

The hard part is the texture manipulation, because you usually have to mask the area where the banner should appear in a tedious manual way (excluding belts, rivets, etc.), and then play around with different contrast and brightness setting to get an acceptable blending result for all colors. On some armors, this takes 20 minutes, on others, hours.

The reason why I didn't post a link to a download is because the resources are useless, if you don't create a new module. If you want to check it out by creating a new module, send me a PM and I can give you a zip that you can then extract into a copy of the native folder to build a new module and further instructions. It's quite involved, though.

since crpg has already gotten around 1500 items in item.txt ,which is quite large for a mod for warband. i think the best solution is to replace current brown/blue/yellow/grey/crimson/black/green/white/pink/purple/azura colored mail with surcoat or any other armor that has the same model but different color variations with one model, but alternative color using tableau technics, so we can reduce the amount of models by 100+(every item occupies 7 slots in item.txt for the -3~+3 ranks of items),which means we can add more distinctive items.

The problem with that is that some clan players might not want to run around in the colors of their clan banner.

Couldn't an admittedly painfully tiring to do solution be having 50% of the banner background just be copypastes of one tiny area in the corner of a banner?

Don't understand why they don't put this in when you've done all the leg work, must be too busy buffing 2h.
