Title: Arrowheads
Post by: Arrowblood on February 04, 2013, 04:05:34 pm
We all love optical realism. Thats why i post this.

This arrowhead:a needle bodkin visitors can't see pics , please register or login
cant penetrate plate armor. It was designed for penetrating mail armours.

But this arrowhead ,a short bodkin visitors can't see pics , please register or login
can penetrate plate armour AND mail armour.

So i want the arrowhead from the tatar arrows on the bodkin arrow and a new one for the tatar arrow:visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Because they deal high cut dmg against low armor.

If I could do this for you (custom replacement) would there be a reward?

EDIT: I offer because I think your reasoning is sound, but this sort of thing doesn't really get "officially" addressed that often... and I have the skills!

Solid. I would do it this afternoon, but I'm not sure when I'll be home this week. I'm on this ASAP though, now that it's so monetized :).

Alright boys. Here's some pictures of the finished work! I've only got pictures of the custom Tatars here, because I only own Tatars in-game and can't afford Bodkins . However, you already know what the bodkin heads look like - they're just ripped from those other arrows, as per your request, and put on the original bodkin shafts.

Implementing these into your game is simple. In your CRPG folder there is a subfolder called Resources. In there are all of your .brf files. One is called finalboss_arrows.brf. While I suggest you save the original just in-case something happens, all you have to do is replace it with my modified file, and voila, you should have the realistic arrowheads you so desperately need.

Note though - without getting too technical, the Texture and Material (two things a model needs) are supposed to match... and in the original file, they don't. I fixed that. Shouldn't be anything but good, but... well, this is why we're saving the original.

I can email you the replacement file - it's small enough. Let me know if you're interested. And then, after you've played with it a bit, you can decide if you want to give me glittering prizes for my hard work.

Can i use them now with the pack of final boss?

Does Final Boss's pack alter arrows? If so, then they might conflict. If not, you're good to go. I would be happy to make this work with his, if it doesn't, but I haven't been able to download his pack. Can't find a working link.

EDIT: Crap, I see now that his pack did in fact change arrows. What I sent you should revert the arrows back to the "original" look, except for the changes I made. Let me know if you want me to update his arrows instead - but that will require finding a working link to his pack, somewhere.

1 small problem is that i have absolute white arrows now  :D

Mhmm, must be the lack of Final Boss's textures. Ah well, that's why we saved the original, right? I'll see if I can't figure it out.

Just to be clear though, the bows didn't change, right? Just the arrows?

Alright, a new, Final_Boss's Heirloom Model Pack Friendly version is ready! Emailing it to you now, Arrowblood, if you would be so good to test it once again.

Clearly you'll need to have the Heirloom pack installed.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the looms so I couldn't test them in-game, but the unloomed versions work swimmingly. Should be good!

Thanks for bearing with me :)

On this picture i use the masterwork tatararrows. The arrow quiver is filled with masterwork tatararrows as you can see at the red and white feathers.
The arrows i have in my hand is also a masterwork tatar arrow, he has the nice new arrowhead but the feathers of a +1 tatar arrow now.

On this picture i us masterwork bodkin arrows, again the quiver and the arrow head  are correct but the feathers of the arrow are from a unloomed bodkin arrow now.

Oh and don care about the terrain texture, that happens when i set the graphics from low to high without rejoining the server.

We're close. It's just difficult, because I can't look at the textures while I'm working (the problem I had during round 1, that I thought I fixed, but it made your arrows pure white). I'll see what I can do.

I just noticed that if a arrow hits a shield, the arrowhead disappears from it.

Huh... not sure what that's about...

arrows are complicated! If you had just wanted a different axe head or something we would have been done in 30 mins, haha.

I'll keep messing with it.

BTW I won Garison's poetry contest, so I won't exactly be "needing" a reward anymore (my needs are simple and the prize will more than cover them). I'll still accept it, when all is finished, if you insist... but I'd be happy just giving back to the community a bit.

Sorry, i didnt find a special theme on forums for my post but anyway ...

Smth about arrows... Well, i am an active member of historical club and every time i watch when some archer is kiting from a tincan with gothic plate i laugh too much...

1st of all, arrows have never dealed any damage for plates, it was a bussines of x-bows. Check this video, there are some series in russian, where archer is shooting bodkin in Churburg cuirras - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCywaYlQxWE

2nd, shooting in a millanes salet for example is absolutly unreallistic, medieval armors were made to give a maximum protection to their owners, thats why they costed so much IRL and they are not cheap enough in game. Helmets were 1.5-2, sometimes 3 mms in thickness, so shooting in it even with bodkin arrows is the same as shooting with a rifle in a tank. For example the first english tank Mark I had 8-12 mms armor and it was enought to stop a bullet.

In rare cases when arrow penetrated throw a plate it could not do any damage to a body, cause a knight was wearing mail or a padded armor under main cuirass. U can also check it on Utube.

So in my opinion arrows should be nerfed or devs need to add some stuff like advanced hit boxes in uncovered places like eyes, armpit, back of the knee or neck if it is not covered with bevor and has only mail armor.

Fast forward to 11:40 and enjoy.

Yes bodkins could not pierce good plate at its strongest point.  But aim somewhere else or at lower quality plate and you get a different story :D
