Title: Watch the video and please explain.
Post by: Callan on February 03, 2013, 06:39:43 am
http://forum.meleegaming.com/crpg-technical-problems/unusual-%27lag-spikes%27/

I'm putting this link here because no fucker is gonna really look at it otherwise.

Can someone please "discuss" explain to me what is happening here.

This is not internet related because my ping is stable before/after/during and the other players are moving fine too although they see me as moving to that location while on my screen you get absolutely fucked.

It doesn't happen every round but it is quite common for me and its only happened the last 2 days.

I get these a lot as well, they used to only happen on horseback, but for me they have been happening as infantry for quite a few months as well now.

Very annoying and can easily get you killed.

Are you using the WSE thingy? It causes severe stutter for me at random times without rhyme or reason, one day being flawless and the next skipping every other frame, or spiking with teleports while my game's ping as well as my Skype and Teamspeak are perfectly stable...

If you use WSE, check the options. Go to graphics and check the bottom, there is some option which says it is experimental, make sure that it is DISABLED.

It is something like reduce frame lag or something like that, below the FPS cap.

oh that just happens when there is a bad ping spike. It's always happened to me when i spike.

It is a sending spike.
The way it works is really simple. You're not sending information to the server anymore -- but still receiving information from the server. SO you see them updating but you're stuck doing your prior actions / nothing at all.

It's something to do with your routing/interrupting, not necessarily even at your house, but along the way to the server -- just along the way your sending data gets dropped/delayed. But it is almost entirely likely a local issue to you. [your home internet or ISP]
So uh, yeah it IS internet / ping related. Thanks for asking!

Had same thing yesterday. Was teleporting as infantry just during last round of 1 map. Next map everything was back to normal.

I get this multiple times a round, that's exactly what happens to me. Been happening the last few weeks after I moved back to my apartment. It's definitely the connection, but it's not like the connection is that bad. I feel like it's partly something with the game/server, too, in a way..

Edit:  Also, if this happens on horse, it begins to veer off in random directions, even if you haven't touched A/D. It's a terrible situation to be in (run over teammates, crash into obstacle, etc.)

I didn't say your ping would raise. It's a send-spike, you're still receiving info just fine.
However/In addition to/ Warband has an awful system for updating your ping, and it won't display most spikes your ping incurs anyways.

Open task manager, click on resource monitor, click on resource tab. Under network activity find your warband process and find the address.
Click on your start/windows icon. Click on run or search and type in cmd. Type ping <the address> -t
Now it should be doing a constant ping.                                                          space^            space^
For a control, you can also open an additional command window and run a continuous ping to another site.
Play c-rpg.
When you get this issue, go out and check your command windows for issues.
ctrl-c will stop the ping and provide statistics for that time frame

Avarage to cRPG servers: 117 ms
Avarage to google.de: 30 ms
Avarage to IG_Battlegrounds: 59 ms

Different issue but thanks to Rumblood I gathered some data. It's like that on every weekend since new year and happened earlier in March and November last year, the difference was that it happened every afternoon then, not only on weekends.

Stuff like that happens now and then, and already happened on native module therefore its a problem with warband itself.

Doing a ping -t and it doesn't just spike, just completely drops packets. Either no spike or completely timed out

Are you using wireless? I had to kick mine to the curb and run a dedicated drop through the attic to the wall even though my router is 25 feet away with no walls in between. If you test to other sites and get that on them all at the same time, contact your ISP and tell them you are experiencing packet loss. They should be able to pull statistics that shows them you are having issues from the router on. If that looks good, they'll tell you it is on your side and you'll have to figure out the segment from your PC to the router.

I am directly connected to the modem. I had a better connection with wireless back at my parents. Crpg is the only game with such extreme problems, and I am not alone, apparently.

I just accept that Warband and Mount and Blade as a whole is terribly optimized and does weird and crazy things that no game this day and age has any right to do, but hey, it is an indie game.
