Sorry if theres a thread for this already, didn't find any with search.
The current valour system in siege requires you to fight constantly against enemies. If you really want to get it, theres no time to stop for a minute to destroy a door or gate. (Unless map requires it of course). This is a shame, since usually destroying those really helps your team.
Thus I suggest that attackers would get a small amount of points. It should be so big that you still have some sort of chance to get valour, and at the same time so small that only smashing dem doors doesn't give valour and it wouldn't encourage people to pointlessly destroy them. And obviously defenders wouldn't get any points. I believe this would make valour whores, who often do the highest damage, to help the team more. Also smashing the doors is really boring and I think many people avoid doing it.

Whole team equipped with knives and smashing doors for valour lolz...
But seriously, defending the flag 'just in case' is also against valour but it's one of the most important things to do to win... There is prolly 2 many things that should be rewarded and too many different castles which require different tactics. Sometimes you don't need to destroy the double gate to win and you'd better just open it but to open it - you need teammates but then look... they are smashing the doors for points <facepalm>
Imho siege needs more brain than additional points. Also points should be given for fighting close to the flag not somewhere in the corner that nobody knows where it is.

The idea was that you don't anywhere near the amount of points required to valour by only smashing gates for the whole round.
But this was just a small idea, and not very crucial one. Thanks for feedback!

Yes but not those that are already open. Also bonus points for attackers/defenders opening/closing portcullis and activating ladders.

Gates can't fight back so points for smashing inanimate object? NO! this is lame and there are actually more yes than no on your poll. I am sad. what's next points for going up ladder and opening the main gate?

some scenarios:
1)you go backdoor and want to break the door. some people brought an axe and some brought a onehanded sword. this will result in the axemen not being able to break the door because the agiwhoring 1handers were there before them and are breaking the door
2)you are pushing with your team to the flag, come by a door and half of your team stops to break it (however the door is useless)
3)you are smart, go backdoor and ninja yourself to the gates to open them. You open them, giving your own life (the enemy kills you when you already opened the gate). Your team just doesnt care and keeps attacking the gates while the enmy closes the doors again.
4)there is this underground map where you have to start with breaking some gates, 2 people can do this at the same time. people will start fighting for this easy score

Do points really mean that much to you? so much that you want points for smashing doors? give me a break people. this is a horrid idea and if this happens it will bring even less teamwork to siege and more door smashers! the point of siege is to get to flag or defend it and keep your multi. if you get valour congrats, but don't expect it to be handed to you because you did what your team should've been doing.

Killing a stray horse should give 1 point.. so frustrating to see them cav just get back up again after getting dehorsed like nothing happend.

SO many good ideas in this thread. Every time I get valour on siege, it's because I ignored objectives and ran around on the walls killing archers/etc.
Point bonus for fighting near flag/opening or closing gates/breaking doors on attack=all good ideas.

I think of Braveheart and Prince Caspian (not equal films, of course), and how both had a heroic bastard that forced open a gate at the cost of their own safety (the latter being a minotaur). Is there no valor in that? Makes sense to me that such a sacrifice would deserve a bonus.

The score shouldn't have to be much, just enough to encourage people to play objectives instead of chasing fights around the map. Some maps require 3-4 minutes of smashing a pair of heavy gates, and so often there's too few who bother.

This is a good idea. But people who deal very little damage will be at a huge disadvantage. I say 1 score point per hit to everyone and 2 for those who deal the highest damage since most rounds award valour at 80 or bigger score when there are +40 players around. The doors normally break after 10 hits or so.

I say: dump valor into trashcan - burn it - burry it and prohibit mentioning it ever existed by instant ban and public spanking. This would solve many problems.

If it's per hit expect knife or wooden stick door abuse, will have to be damage based to stop farming, or a fixed score for the final blow that breaks it
It needs to be damage based because this:
Player1 is smashing some gates for about 2 mins. Player2 arrives and deals the last blow, breaking the gates. He is rewarded with a preset ammount of points, but actually he did only 1% of the job

+1, and taking flags should also be rewarded, all part of the team effort.

It shouldn't give straight points for hitting doors, but at the end of each round, "Awards" should be given to:
-The attacker that did the most damage to gates/doors that round
-The attacker that opened gates the most that round
-The attacker AND defender that did the most damage within a certain radius of the flag
etc
These awards should be pretty minor, on the order of an extra XP/gold tick. But it would add a fun meta-game for some people.

Also add score for "pushing" siege tower. There are too many lazy bastards who are standing inside of it instead of help the team. Also pushing it with only one person takes ages.
