If you avoid the shady servers, hacking is quite ok now. Admins though, they can see everything. Many times I've put tents and stuff in places difficult to reach and extermely well hidden and those tents were looted after only a few hours (not saying an admin did it, but they only have to look to do that kind of things so you got to find good servers)
