Title: Str Crutchers made affordable, and balanced.
Post by: Over on January 12, 2013, 05:01:19 am
I've had this idea for a while: what if you could play a tin can, and not go broke?
I played a 36/3 polearmer in the past, and I loved how it felt when arrows bounced off, and puny weaklings had their blows glance off, leaving me unscathed. I did NOT LOVE how much Heavy plate armor cost me, and how I could only have fun half the time. So I got to thinking, how could you make Heavy armor cheap, without breaking the game?

Then, I watched Hobo With A Shotgun.

HOLY SH** HAVE YOU SEEN THIS SHI**?
THESE GUYS ARE WEARING GODDAMN SLABS OF STEEL.
THE HOBO'S SHOTGUN IS NOT EFFECTIVE.

But, How can anyone move in something like that? Realistically?
Answer: They can't, not easily.
Would it be CHEAP to Make though?
YES. And this would apply to Medieval smiths too.

So, how about an armor, that you need to be Very High STR to use, and slows you down like hell, but is CHEAP?
You get to be a tank, you just don't get to be a tank all over the map. Think turtles.

Milanese, What I feel is the Tankiest "Normal" armor.

Proposed stats for this "Crude Plate" Armor

Much slower than milanese, But with the same protection. Much cheaper, But only STR crutcher tanks can even wear it.
Thoughts?

your idea of making plate armor better is good, but your intentions are wrong. You want to make it cheaper too?
plate is OP already, it should be unaffordable to balance it

The idea is to make it a lot heavier, rather than more expensive, for the sake of balance. Imagine if tincans were 2/3 their current speed. I think It would be fine.

Back in Medieval times plate armor is made so knight could quite comfortably move and fight sometimes for several days - in the case of siege or something. The notion that people have used it was almost impossible to move in that armor is wrong. A full suit of medieval plate is thought to have weighed little more than 60 lb (27 kg), on average lighter than the equipment often carried by today's armies which averages at around 90 lb (40 kg).

False?

And 15 more weight does not compensate for 20k less cost...

I personally don't think there should be any more incentives to strength crutch :/

It's just a sugquestion. As for realism, I don't see anything wrong with armor where made by a cheapers smith, where more metal is a substiture for skill.

how about a battered milanese?  put some dents n rust on the model from now,  keep its weight but give it

Requirement:16 strength
Weight:25.5
Shop price:31,632 gold
Body armor:56
Leg armor:15

for 20k?

its still plate stat wise,  would actually make sense balance wise  if you take a look at the shop,  and would add rp and variety to the field.

Oh please.  Everyone just -1'd this thread because full strength heavy armor builds are considered the scrubbiest and stupidest things in cRPG and the great majority don't want to see them encouraged.  I was just explaining why everyone -1'd him.  Crassly.
