Does using a shield with a hvy lance while mounted reduce its damage?

Why should it?

Because it does so with 2h (as well as speed), so it begs the question. I don't think it does with polearms though, but now that you mention it I'm not sure I've ever seen it addressed one way or the other. Not that it hasn't been.

Horses and shields both apply the malus, but the malus doesn't stack when you use both.

The only weird effect is that using a shield with a 2h will make you use your 1h prof, but using a 2h on horse without shield will not (even if it's a 1/2h weapon like the HBS)

What does this mean?

It means you get the penalty.

If you use a 2h or polearm on horse, you get the penalty. If you use a 2h or polearm with a shield, you get the penalty.

Does using a shield with a hvy lance while mounted reduce its damage?
It doesn't reduce your damage while mounted since you hold the lance with only one hand anyway. It's damage and speed is already reduced comparing with holding the lance with both hands on foot.

Ah, I didn't realize there was a penalty for using items on a horse. So just using a lance on a horse, you're getting a certain penalty. But if you were to add a shield to that, you wouldn't be incurring any extra penalty. And if you're using a pole on foot with a shield, same penalty as if you were on a horse, with or without a shield. Thanks!

The malus on horse I know is a speed penalty (like 25 or 33% reduced speed) but I also believe it's 25 or 33% reduced damage.

From foot I believe it's similar for the hit to your speed, but I don't know if on foot it reduces damage too.

Anyone clarify?

it's * 0.85 guaranteed penalty if you use a 2h/polearm on a horse or together with a shield...
 another * 0.85 if it's a polearm...
 and another * 0.9 if it's a 2h that can't be wielded in 1 hand on horseback

These are the damage penalties.

The penalty with shield modifier is for damage, and a 30% reduction in damage seems to be accurate. All polearms are slower when used with a shield compared to when used two handed, even those without the penalty with shield modifier. The difference in time per attack depends on the weapon speed. The equations for time per attack verses weapon speed with 1 proficiency are:

Time per attack for polearms used with two hands = -0.0124 seconds * (weapon speed) + 2.3368 seconds
Time per attack for polearms used with a shield     = -0.0195 seconds * (weapon speed) + 3.257 seconds

Where those equations are coming from can be found in this thread (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,2531.0.html) if you are interested. The percent increase in time per attack for a polearm used with a shield compared to used two handed is:

Speed 104 Staff: 17%
Speed 98 Spear: 20%
Speed 95 War Spear: 21%
Speed 92 Awlpike: 22%
Speed 90 Bamboo Spear: 23%
Speed 75 Heavy Lance: 28%

The percentages remain constant regardless of user proficiency as the reduction in time per attack with increasing proficiency is proportional to the time per attack at 1 proficiency and the reduction in time per attack appears to be constant at ~6.5% per 100 proficiency for all weapon animations.
