Title: Increase FPS, decrease lags, with WSE (Settings)
Post by: Alexander_TheGreat_ on January 07, 2013, 06:29:08 am
Untick: Loads on demands
Untick: Auto-expose (auto-change color somewhere or whatever...just useless)
Untick: Dephts effect (i see no changes with or without, the only good thing is that get better fps without it)

Set framerate to 85 (since the eye cant see more than 60 fps)
Tick all the three boxes below
also those with expermital beside...

Good luck guys, thats how it worked with me, and i used to have alot of performance, fps, and lag problems.

Btw: all my settings is on the lowest. And i run permantly with 80+ a few times to 70, but thats because its on a big map, with 140 players, because of doubble EXP HAIL DOUBBLE EXP!!!

you can set the fps limit to 60 as-well, since most of the monitors have refresh rate of 60Hrz.

It certainly runs a good amount smoother with those settings. Gonna keep 'em... Thanks Phase. Have a +1 :D

I'm sure this doesn't affect everybody, but setting my FPS to 60 causes a weird horizontal distortion that runs across my screen. It's not terribly game-breaking but certainly distracts the heck outta me. Setting it to 80 diminishes the line to being nigh invisible.

Supposedly Vsync fixes that screen tearing. And, if your monitor's refresh rate is 60 Hz, then it will probably better to enable Vsync rather than limiting framerate to 60 fps.

It doesn't fix it though. That's what I thought the problem was...but unfortunately it didn't work. Tried all sorts of combinations.

It is very simple , this game is not designed for 250 payers...accept it and live with it.

Keep in mind that it will also limit other stuff like input processing, which is very noticeable.

VSync is currently half-broken. It will be fixed in the next release or the one after (big performance hit when using it, though).

Says who? Just because it doesn't run well for you doesn't mean it's the same for everyone; a new-ish PC should be more than enough to run it with 250 players.
Also, what exactly does this have to do with the thread?

I had the very same thing, never thought it could be the FPS settings, thought my monitor was broken lmao. Have a +1 you too!

enabling v-sync makes the game unplayable on some amd cards, limiting to 60fps works great for me. i got the hd6850, overclocked ofcourse ;)

Do you mean I should change the fps limit to 120 even if I enable vsync? What exactly do you mean by "input processing"? 8ms (60Hz vs 120Hz) more lag when blocking and so on? Why is it tied to the fps?

Why is it tied to the fps?

Everything is tied to it. The FPS limit doesn't just affect graphics FPS, it also affect engine FPS (input, physics, game logic...)

What exactly do you mean by "input processing"? 8ms (60Hz vs 120Hz) more lag when blocking and so on?

The lower the FPS, the higher the input lag. It's quite noticeable if you set the FPS limit to a low value.

Do you mean I should change the fps limit to 120 even if I enable vsync?

Right now it will either do nothing (because VSync is buggy) or cap FPS at 60 (assuming your monitor is the usual 60Hz). In one of the next versions I will try to split the FPS limit setting into engine FPS limit and graphics FPS limit, and then you should be able to have engine FPS higher than 60 (i.e. less input lag) even if you have VSync on.

As long as you don't lower the fps cap any longer... For good-computer-f**** like me, anything under 120 would be the end of the world. xD
