Should you be allowed to use ladders in open battles, where you don't use them to get up a building or wall? (for example as anti cav)
Assuming that the ladders will be placed in the accepted way (no skyladdercrap etc)
-
I think so. If we had some sort of spiked wall/barricade placement siege equipment, that would be preferable- but until such time as something like that is implemented placing ladders on the ground seems acceptable to me.
-
Personally I believe that placing a ladder onto a tree or such is acceptable, however placing a ladder purely on ground in order to stop cav is not.

Pikes...
Tbh I disagree with using ladders to stop cav. But I also disagree with anything which doesn't make sense. We need equipment hp specifications. Such as : either a spiked wall as malac suggested or siege shields will be able to stand cav attacks (spiked siege shields?)
On the other hand if spiked wall gets implemented and if it can stand that much damage from cav : how can we make sure that they won't be abused like placing them on spawn flags?
So, until we get a solid system my vote is No.

Spikes should be individual stakes and not walls of them. That way it takes teams of people to deploy them making it hard to block gaps and abuse. As for placing on spawn flags, that is no different from placing any other siege equipment on top of flags

WTB caltrops.

Why would ladders have to be put on things? Isn't it more realistic if you fortify with whatever you have on hand? Especially ladders since what else do we have? I thought it was brilliant when people started using them like this.

No it's fucking retarded. It's so unrealistic it's nauseating. Yeah, sure, "fuck realism."
Me: "Well, fuck you."
It's too easy for a single player to deny cavalry access to a siege ladder's length of area. That's alot of fucking space that I can't ride through because some herp derp took two seconds to drop a ladder. No effort on the thrower's part, yet the effect is significant.
For now, just let polearms counter cav. Oh, and ranged can help. Oh, and other cavalry, too. And throwers. Oh, and I guess two-handers with weapons that are of decent length work, too. Basically, anybody who doesn't have THEIR FUCKING HEAD UP THEIR ASS can fight cav, except one-handers--their weapons are too short (oh well).
Whoever suggested that players could carry and place single stakes was spot on. I like that idea. Fuck, make the stakes 0slots, too! As long as they can be removed by the enemy, and as long as they're individual stakes. Make it so that they can only be placed with at least one infantryman's width between them. Cavalry can't ride through, but infantry can walk through, albeit with some fuck-uppery to movement.

You know what else takes no effort? Playing cav on an open field map and picking off players as they spawn.

fuck realism

As a cav player, I'm fine with it. Adds another tactical element to the battlefield, is easily destroyed and doesn't unbalance a match. Until they come out with anti cav spikes, this works. Also, fuck realism.
-
just hop over the ladder

Napoleonic Wars has some items I wished could get ported over to CRPG... including anti-cavalry spikes (they come in batches of 4)

Yes. Fuck you cav
-
Yes 47 (69.1%)
No 21 (30.9%)
Obvious Yes, it shall be written in the rules, that one can use a ladder in open battles to annoy cav as long as the ladder is placed in a valid way.
