Title: Films about 1st and 2nd Balkan wars
Post by: Vammo75 on December 21, 2012, 10:51:05 am
When I went to school we learnt that WW1 started with an assassination. The context of the assassination was never really explained. I have now been reading about the two wars that preceded WW1, i.e. the 1st and 2nd Balkan wars, and how they contributed to the start of WW1.

I love war films. and so my question is. Are there any Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Slovenian, Albanian, Turkish, Hungarian, Austrian or Italian or any country's films set in these wars? (New or old but with the possibility of English subtitles)

If there are could you say if they are balanced films or nationalistic films?

Watching movies won't help. You should read Ivo Andric's books.

Reason for assassination of Franz Ferdinand was Austro Hungarian occupation and annexion of Bosnia 1908. Serbia and Bosnia wanted to become one state, but AH did annexion of Bosnia . Gavrilo Princip assassinated Franz, and AH blamed Serbia for it and demanded investigation about it in our state (their officers wanted to investigate it in our state). We sayed no,and they used it as excuse to start a world war.
I don't know any movie about Balkan war's,but Serbs kick Bulgarian and Turkish ass.  :P Here is a movie about ww1 ,it is very good, you should check it out.

mh, i know it's only  a short summary of a complex process, but most importantly you forgot to mention the German part in it. There are several indications that a great part of at least the military leadership was planning for a big war years ahead (Schlieffenplan). So Germany pressed AH to present the ultimatum, urged them to trigger a war and gave them full military support whatsoever (Blankoscheck).
