I heard rumors it gets boring after a few hours.

It's quite fun, unfortunately the progress is a bit too fast so you very quickly find that iron ect have little point in mining except for money.

I am playing by myself and progress seems pretty slow considering I don't have the items needed to even dream of taking on a boss yet and my health bar isn't maxed yet and mana bar only like 2 mana stars. Yeah the lower metals are pretty useless after a little while, but there is so much more to collect and create, along with quite a few different suits for different tasks and enemies. I think the best thing about the game so far is that it has so many possibilities and the developers can add things so easily.

I can't find a place where I can buy it through Amazon. Steam doesn't like my cards. :(

Pretty sure the only way to buy this game is through Steam. You could get a friend to gift it to you and give him the money for it.

I've seen a few steam friends playing it but they were uhh "unavailable" to talk to so I'd like to ask some q's about it.
I've watched the steam videos and it seems like you do a lot of fighting.
The building/mining interests me a lot and I wondered how much of it is being creative and how much is just spamming enemies.

It's a very simple game, but I find it very fun and quite addictive at times.
What do you by being creative btw? you can build as much you want or design things, but you must remember it's a 2d sidescroller, you are limited by that always, still I have made some pretty cool bases with people, fighting arenas, mob traps using lava, shooting holes or even spikes looted from the dungeon. For what it costs, it's worth it.
Every tile in the game is basically minable/collectable. Of course superior things like good Ingots to make decent equipment require you to have a certain quality/tier of pick to mine them, so you do have to progress somewhat unless you just get given everything, which kinda takes away part of the fun.
But you will always be harrassed by monsters, it can be quite annoying at times, especially when you have sucky equipment and accessories, but once you learn some tricks and when to use certain weapons, you can easily defeat or even avoid the monsters. The game is pretty basic in concept, but that's a good thing because that combined with being 2d sidescroller, there are so many possibilities for Content that can be added to the game.

Major necro.
Few days ago Terraria got patched to 1.1 version and there's a lot of new stuff added.
For instance now there are item modifiers (like in Diablo), there are new materials, new items, new sets, pumps (for water and lava), new bosses, new enemies, new land (hallow biome) which is counterpart to corruption, hardcore mode, wires which allow mechanism making, new lightning effects, new NPCs...
Game is still the same, drill there to obtain that, use that to craft this, use this to kill something, rince and repeat but it's still fun as hell.
You should try it again if you have it on steam but don't blame me because you played the game for a whole day.
I've just managed to kill pre hardcore boss who's quite scary and you need to prepare terrain to be able to fight it (took me 20 mins just to do that).

Better buy Minecraft.

I can't stand blocky graphics else minecraft would be better indeed.
Terraria graphics remind me of old final fantasy graphics which is not something bad :P

Yust get some superawesome Texture pack and Minecraft will look like Crysis on Crack with blocks.

Don't compare Terraria and Minecraft as competing games. They both involve digging for materials and exploring dungeons and that's pretty much it. Minecraft is a game for building shit with a very crappy action content. Terraria is a game that's mainly about adventuring and killing crap, and as the downside building stuff is a lot less interesting.

Still blocky.
