Post by: Weewum on December 17, 2012, 11:26:17 pm
Recently heard on American radio, that a senator is trying to ban "Violent video games" after the recent shooting, just wondering what your guys think about that.

Come at me bro!
Seriously though this always happens after mass shootings when its a younger male individual. Its understandable as an emotional kneejerk reaction but its not even close to a real solution to anything. Violence in video games does not translate to violence in the real world.

It's the easiest thing to blame, stupid politicians.
Actually these "violent video-games" help people by giving them some place to express their anger, so it doesn't go out to the public.
Ban these, get even more incidents. Idiots.

This is a fucking joke, yeah, video games are evil! Violence in games corrupt the youth! Always gotta be some retard drawing such a ridiculous conclusion, at least after 9/11 I never heard anyone ask for a ban on flight simulator video games.

It happens after every public shooting. They find video games at his house and go "omg! Tihs iz teh reasons!". And conveniently ignore that practically everyone(men that is) at age 15-25 plays video games.
Personally, I blame Jack Thompson. After every shooting he suddenly and conveniently appears. Hmm... (http://www.gamepolitics.com/2012/12/17/jack-thompson-eca-maybe-now-youll-get-it)

Spánverjavígin also known as the "Spanish Killings" or "Slaying of the Spaniards" was an Icelandic massacre. Some Spanish Basque whalers went on a whaling expedition to Iceland and were killed after conflict with the people of Iceland in 1615 in the region of the Westfjords.

"Thou taketh evil from the rooted brow of Shakespeare! He plagues the mind of our youth! Hath not an evil thought if thou canst be desecrated by the words in these violent writings! Ban he! Ban the works of Shakespeare! Ban he, or begotten by thou own kinsmen who do the same!"

Considering ur asking this on a video gaming forum, ur probably gonna get some pretty biased answers.

Wouldn't they have to ban violent television/cinema as well? Or does this senator think that video games have some secret brainwashing ability that makes people who play them violent? Retarded. Exactly what you'd expect from our senators.

I want to know why Jack Thompson hates video games so much?

Apparantly he thinks "It simulates mass murder." or something along the lines and "Teaches it to be good."

He's obviously a feggot.

Ah, violent videogames. Always the easy scapegoat instead of how easy it is for mentally unstable people to obtain firearms

Banning anything will not work I think. It is about families who raise their children in a good way... or bad way which means cannot raise

I can see where he's coming from. Video games are probably the most interactive entertainment that simulates killing others. Still, I think the most needed change is the process in getting and guns and getting/maintaining gun licenses.

It's not guns or mentally fucked up people that kill people, it's video games. I think everyone should know that by now, considering every mass shooting is blamed on them. In fact, game producers / publishers should be put in prison for these violent crimes. Start with EA pls

I've always considered politicans who blame violence on videogames not real politicans. Cause they really got nothing better to discuss about, so they pick a thing they really know little about and try to gain influence by maniupulating concerned parents or shocked people, who also dont know anything about the thing they are trying to ban.
Videogames have been proved to calm people, just cause they find em in some murderers PC is just a mere covincidence.

Politicians resorting to these empty promises are just pure demagogues when it comes to the election times.
Blaming video-games to try attract votes to yourself is the most pathetic of campaigns.

They have found pants in the closet of almost every mass murderer. It is obvious to me that pants are the cause of these killings and they should be outlawed.

People already covered it pretty much; I dont think games make people hostile irl, it is more a way to let off some steam by slaughtering stuff ^^ Allthough there is a fair share of games that can make one pissed off which can maybe lead to something like that but still i think the person must have other issues to commit such a crime..
Censorship is silly, maaaybe games could affect kids at a young age or something but thats the parents fault for letting kids play such games..
