SUBSCRIPTION NO LONGER REQUIRED! (http://www.thesecretworld.com/news/subscription_no_longer_required)
There is still subscription for those who want to pay for it and benefits are:
- Time Accelerator (Clickable item which increases experience gain for defeating monsters by 100% for 1 hour, 16 hour cool-down – only usable by Members and Grand Masters)
- $10 worth of Bonus Points (given out every month)
- Item-of-the-month gift (given out every month)
- 10% discount to everything in the in-game store
-
So I quess the game didnt turn out as well as the devs wanted......
-
like every FunCom MMO they fail (kinda).............why do they have to keep maiking MMOS ? jeez.....like the only Norwegain game company is shit
-
Every MMORPG with subscription failed recently. Subscription model only works for World of WarCraft and partially for EVE.

SuscriptionMMO time has sorta passed imo. People are sick of these games. The combatsystem is normally similar to WOW or just simply not very engaging. These teaservideos nolonger tease noone. Cause when it comes to MMOs, people nolonger give a crap about the type of quests, worlds, lore, factions whatevers. All they care about is if it still stays good after loads of grinding and if the combatsystem is any good. I mean just look at planetside 2 . Some short lore, read it, dont read it, doesnt really matter, just jump straight in and shoot shit and its popular as hell. I for one am seriuslly happy the MMO genre is currently failing, cause lets be honest, from the gameplay point mostly all of them lacked creativity. Hopefully this will push them to make something more original.

Unless you're named WoW you're bound to fail. Even Gay Wars 2 that was hyped to hell but the internet kiddies will drop pop soon.

I think it should be full f2p if they have an in-game store. Just seems a little unfair that people pay 30$ for the game and still have a disadvantage.
-
For those interested there's a 50% discount on amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Electronic-Arts-41018ecret-World1-Download/dp/B007VTVKG6/ref=dsvrt_myd_asin_block
It's valid till 30th this month.
@Applesauce The cash shop is primary cosmetic stuff (Tough people wanted the costumes free even tough there are some ingame) the only thing that can give you an advantage is an item that makes you get more experience from monster kills which is arguable not the best way to level as quest give much more experience.
The game while it has pvp is primary a pve game.

That's not entirely true, ie. me and my friend played Warcraft for quite a bit and we both were much more into lore and the story than into grinding, stats and metagame. Warcraft has a remarkable lore background and if played properly it can be a quite good actual roleplaying game, or at least multiplayer adventure game. Unfortunately, as you said, the mob is mostly interested in phat loot.

Thanks for the sweet find, might have to pick this up now. And that doesn't sound too terrible then if it's mostly cosmetic. Something tells me soon it'll be completely f2p, this seems like a last attempt to get some cash from those willing to buy it.

Don't think so. They did the similar thing with Anarchy Online.
I might play it for quests, I heard that story is interesting.

Anarchy is a good MMO, graphics are lame, but hey, who cares? :D
Also there is a lot of people still playing it, server was pretty full when I played it around 2009/11
I do believe there is also graphic mods for Anarchy making it looks beautiful.

Has anyone an old unloved account for me?
Might have something to share also. Some Gameaccounts, even some betaaccounts for like Rust or Infinite Crysis.

I wasted one year and a lot of money on Age of Conan, and I can see why this one might have failed as well. But, looking at the OP, it seems playing for free has no important disadvantages? It might be worth trying out. Has anyone played it? How's it like?
-
Bought this a while back, it's not too bad. Played it for like a week or two and stopped after that. Not much really kept me into it. The quests and locations are nice in the beginning, but start to feel repetitive after you get deeper into the game. Main thing that killed it for me was the combat, really don't like it. But that's probably due to being spoiled by combat from Neverwinter and Firefall.
