Title: Studies, students, what do you study?
Post by: donib on December 13, 2012, 11:03:35 am
What does the crpg player do next to crpg? Any one studies? Did a study or wants to do a study?

I am currently doing architectual engineering, first year, though i doubt i will continue with this. Last year i did automotive engineering but i quit it around this time. As you can see i still havent found a study that seems to fit me well, i thought architectual engineering would be good but apparently it isnt what i have expected.

Be careful what you're stating in public though, coders will get drafted into cRPG service.

Best coders usually don't bother with university degree.

And you know that exactly how?

This.

I will consider that's Leshmatrolling, or that you have a vision of the university different than mine, which is pretty possible given the major differences between countries and all. Computer science is, as a scientific field and programming as a technique, among the most open to self education though, that's for sure.

Besides, you don't really need or want "best coders", what you want is people that work with the group.

Awful lot of engineers here.

Myself: Got my qualification in Mediadesign for digital and print and I am now in my 4th year of studying Mediaproductiontechnology-engineering with emphasis on compression-algorithms...
But half of my week I'm designing stuff, and administrate websites and databases for research programmes of the TÜV Rheinland, Germany...

Hehe, I was always wondering if it would be cool to work for the TÜV, running around, looking important, with a little flashlight peaking into all the stuff around and telling people that they have to fix that shit

I'm a Database Administrator by profession, never been to college but studied and supported MS SQL while working for Microsoft as a Support Engineer. That's an ongoing, never ending study. I'm going to actually go to college starting in January to get a degree in Game and Simulation Programming.  At some point hoping to make the transition from the Banking, Mortgage and Finance (non-banking) industries to Gaming.

Haha. I can't talk about features, as you can probably guess, but the video is a good indicator of gameplay, as its intended to be.

My dream is that a game will be made one day that teaches real life skills while retaining the game atmosphere. People are willing to do mindless grinds, memorize inane facts pertinent only to that game, and generate reams of spreadsheets and data to analyze aspects of the game. Physics/chemistry/biology/math/history all would seem to be good fits for something like that. It would have to be a part of a larger world, and not just a "physics game" or "Math 101" in game form.
