Title: Duel trainers
Post by: IR_Kuoin on December 10, 2012, 07:21:40 pm
So I was playing on Eu 3 today and agreed on helping two cRPG noobies who, both of them had gotten the game this very week, and decided to jump onto cRPG from the very start of their cRPG carreer. I tried to do some block training with them, but sadly I had to go. So the thought struck my mind, what about adding 'Trainer bots' to the duel servers, like they've done on Ndation? It could be really useful to train your block on a bot, using your cRPG stats instead of fighting actual players who constantly (mostly ) spams feint making it hard for new players to learn blocking. Could also be a nice way for veterans to train chambers. Perhaps adding bots with different kinds of weapons, and make it so that you can't kill them, and they can't kill you, just like the Ndation training bots.

Any extra suggestions?

Great idea.

Give 50%: A small area for each bot to move around (so they are not stationary)
50%: just stationary

Autoaccept when not in duel, no acceptng while in duel, cancel duel when player moves out of the area.

I agree. While some might say "Just load up single player and go to the training", it would be far more convenient and practical using c-RPG weapons and stats.

This.

Also, ping can make quite a difference. Chambering on your own local server is easier than with 70 ping.

Well I know it's stupid and I'm going to get downvoted for it, why not just go to nditions?

That is always a solution, but, native don't have the same weapons, armor (weight) or WPF (especially) Ndation where everyone spawn with the same armor. That's why I said in my post that it would be better to play with / use your cRPG gear and build, you can't train your chambers on Ndation as a fast agile character, while on cRPG your a slow and not so mobile tank with a slow weapon, like flamberge. If you've tried to chamber with different kinds of weapons you will first have to get used to the different speed, where Ndation / native combat is a lot faster in many ways, especially as a low level char. on cRPG. Like I stated in the OP, its better to train your blocking / chambering with your cRPG build, not the dynamic all-around native build.

inb4 veteran fighter (or whatever his name is) is number one on the duel rankings.

Extra suggestion: Would also be cool if we had different kinds of bots. First rating from bot difficulty. Then having different build bots, like one ninja bot, one tank bot, and so on. Making you able to experience on different kinds of enemies, agi or str oriented enemies. It's not always that easy to pick the opponent you want when you are on the duel server, and some players are so good that many of the "newbies" have a hard time just managing to look what attack they are doing, due to spam feints :|

So having different kinds of bots with different equipment and builds matching more of what EU/NA player base looks like in terms of gear and build. So you could really practice your blocking / fighting tactic, without having to feel "bad" if you lose to another player and if you don't like that fact that if you do bad in a duel, other players can look you up on the c-rpg website and look at your performance instantly thinking that your a bad player because of your duel ranking, which can sometimes affect who to pick for big and important strat battles, am I right? :P

Also add indestructible dummies, which show damage and speed bonus, just like in native singleplayer, I loved playing around with them.

Would it be possible to provide damage dealt/ speed bonus for these bots? That would be great.  Timing for chambers is slightly different online, so it would be convenient.

I'm not the best player but I enjoy helping new players on the duel server get a grasp for the game.  It's really only coincidental that a few of them end up in my clan, honestly.  Teaching them the basics of how to block general consists of setting up a pattern of swings and having them block it until they die several times.  You start with slow swings and eventually they'll have the grasp and be blocking full speed swings.

If only more people did this, I feel like part of the reason this community is failing to grow is the lack of friendly players to help out any new people, as it is a relatively difficult game concept to understand and when I started playing I had no guidance at all.  I taught myself the ropes for the longest time until Allers and MAD KING JOSEPH came along to give me a hand (of course by then I had been playing for quite a few months).

To sum it all up, the community can't grow because everyone is butt-hurt angry mad bad nerds who refuse to help new players and instead call them names and ruin the general opinion of the mod for people who don't play the game.

Well yeah this could work for the most basic stuff, so its great for blocking/attacking. If they also had this opportunity, before they got trained by you, u could teach em more complicated stuff, which would help alot more.

I would love to see a lag bot that has more jerky movements and will simulate a skilled player on the wrong server.

This could be a fantastic addition, no more will new players become frustrated with cRPG being too hard and no longer will people have indefinite opinions; settle who does more damage on the bots!

Sorry if these have been said but I didn't have enough time to read the posts.  :(

I think these could make worthy additions
Various difficulties of bots with differing items
Ranged targets
Bots with different strategies (classifications of bots; heavy cavalry, light archer etc.); eg. moving bots, feinting bots, blocking, chambering?, shield users, ranged users, cavalry, differing armors
Reports on damage dealt with damage, speed bonus, armor reduction, possibly state possible damage that could have been dealt through random elements (if applicable, sorry but I know very little about how damage is calculated to be honest haha)
Bots that do no damage nor deal damage
Ability to cancel duel at any time
I know this one will probably be frowned upon but maybe grant a gold/xp gain for combat against bots? Being an Australian I get very frustrated at having to play on an NA server to gain gold/xp due to the fact that people are very often simply not on cRPG!
Possibly have a few basic "classes" that could be loaded to test different builds quickly, with the ability to check their stats and items (possibly like the native class selection and the cRPG "c" key stat menu?)
Possibly custom appearance for bots to take your anger out on a bot-version of someone ;)

Good idea, even better than playing in the SP training just due to simple reason: Getting used to your ping if you're a newbiew and that's an important thing so epic idea koniu>>>>

Could do what they have on native where you can have like 4 - 5 trainer bots of increasing difficulty :)

ive been thinking for a long time that it would be really cool to make a duel map for the duel server. make it a training area with training dummies like the ones mentioned and what not... use imagination it would be really nice.

I swear I went on the old Unofficial NH cRPG duel server over a year ago and they had bots just like native servers. I asked Turbo about it and he had no idea what I was talking about, but I swear I didn't imagine it. They even spawned with loomed weapons sometimes. A week or so later they were gone. Any current Ravens know anything about this?

yes and i doubt it would be hard to do! duel server would actually have a purpose for me! i dont duel, if i wanted to duel i wouldnt be shielder :D but i do want to warm up and well train practice stuff and there is not really anywhere to go but the duel server, swinging holes in the air.

it should be done ages ago it wouldnt need tweaking or constant patching. when its done its done and its there and will be awesome. how long will it really take to do this with a little bit of commitment? :)

i wonder how you create/edit a map hmms hmms but i guess we would need dummy mech. and cant code 8C

bot trainers like on good ol nditions? Now THAT would be worth a patch!

A new EU3 map would also be nice...
