Well, are they? I am very new, and i see people using throwing weapons in games, but then i go on the forums to look at popular builds, but i see a sore lack of throwing implemented. It seems that the consensus is, is that if you are going to be throwing anything farther than 5 feet in front of you, you need to have somewhere around 100-150 into throwing. If i wanted to make a polearm/throwing spear character, i would have to sacrifice protection as well as melee competence to be able to throw. Why would i want throwing spears? I think it is pretty badass, plus it would let me take out archers... right? Anyways, i could really use some feedback on this subject.

Use a 21-15 thrower/hoplite build,
7 Power throw
7 Powerstrike
5 Athletics
5 sheild
5 weapon master
135 WPF in throwing and 75 prof in polearms.
I would only suggest getting 7 power throw if you wanted to throw lances as they are a decent hoplite weapon and pack a decent punch when thrown.

>Are throwing weapons viable?
More than viable, actually. Throwing makes a good hybrid with 1h and/or pole, and it also makes for good dedicated builds too. A decent team of dedicated throwers (as in three or more working together) hard counters nearly any other similarly sized group of players, especially if the throwers have access to decent shields so that they can close to range with archers.
As far as your weapon of choice goes, throwing spears are alright. They're a decent compromise between the accuracy of war darts and the power of axes.

Throwing is great, because whether you go high agi with Heavy Throwing Axes or high STR with anything else, it's very viable. My personal favorite build is 30/9 10 PT, 10 PS, 3 WM, MW Throwing Lances.

picking up some throwing adds a lot of tactical options for your character at pretty low cost. You bring down a lot of horses, have range attack to soften up 2h heroes, prevents you from being kited by archers. If you're blackbarred you can just sit back and throw, so you'll be able to do something besides die quickly.

I have 2 Throwing lances. I kill 1 or 2 guys/horses, then I start to play ;)

Throwing is expensive as hell. Be thrower when you sure you can pay the upkeep for it.

It's not that expensive, throwing weapons don't break too often.

Yeah throwing's a blast man, have at it.
Spears, Javelins, Heavy Axes, Lances are all awesome. Spears have a nice ammo count. Lances can drop key players on the enemy team, and when you put it in melee mode, its exactly like the Shortened Spear, but with +1b on the swings. So if some big dude in transitional armor is giving your team trouble, put him down.

I wish I could say that, but I for one always loose alot of money with throwingchars, those that use either javelins, throwingspears, lances, axes, jards. Mybe if you go like 1 sloth of the throwingweapon than yea, its not that bad. But I for one go usually like 3 slots and I basically payed for throwingweps every round. And I asked around. Most players I asked also say its way too expensive.
To be honest, you are acctually the first one I hear saying its not expensive. Whats your secret? 8-)

u want to see throwing YOU WANT TO SEE SOME THROWING lol then come to NA1 and watch chucky_tosser and plague_tosser(i think those names are right) pwn some ass. these guys are ninjas for real. they can top the leader boards! seriously man these bastards are hilarious to spec, especially chucky

Truly, it is the greatest part of NA cRPG. Chucky is probably the most loved player in all of NA because he's the goddamn man and he called me corndog.

Pure throwing is amusing but it's kind of a gimmicky setup.
If you want to be a normal infantry with throwing sidearm for tactical purposes and range attack, something like this is what you are looking for:
Strength: 21
Agility: 15
Hit points: 62
Skills to attributes: 2
Ironflesh: 3
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 5
Athletics: 5
Power Throw: 4
Weapon Master: 5
One Handed: 124
Throwing: 100
And yes throwing does add expense, 2 stacks of axes add 8,000 to your gear setup but if you're worried about that it's not hard to compensate in other areas, just go a little lighter in armor, and a mid range wep instead of top line one and you can easily keep your setup in 25-30k range.
