I've never been there, but I recommend the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

Girlfriend is there now. She's been there for 2 months and is there for 1 more. Apparently the Wailing Wall is a must. The dead sea as well.

Friend of mine was there few weeks back and he said that it's just tourism all over the place. Even inside the "birth church" (or w/e the name is) is no silence at all. Everyone is talking loud, mobile phones ringing, cameras flashing...

He expected to find some quiet places there, maybe even find the chance to... you know... have a moment to think in such a "meaningful" place but he said there isn't any chance to get that: just one huge crowd everywhere. And he stayed there like 2 weeks and kept trying.

So, maybe don't expect too much... just repeating what I've been told.

Enjoy your trip tho.

Maybe nighttime is better.

Serbia was (still is) poor country but there was no war on Serbian territory.

War has been fought mainly in Bosnia and Croatia.

It was horrible but I doubt it was bad as Israeli–Palestinian war.

Ortodox vs Catolic vs Muslim war can't be bad as Jew vs Muslim war.

You would be surprised what kind of shit´s going on when the world-spotlight is not on a war as hard as it is on another.

Breaking news!

Quote
Israel has killed the commander of Hamas' military wing, as it launched a series of airstrikes on targets across Gaza.

Palestinian officials say the attacks have killed a total of 10 people so far - including two girls under the age of five - and injured 20.

Two of Hamas' training facilities were among the sites hit by the bombings in Gaza City, Khan Younis and Rafah.

Israel says the airstrikes are the beginning of a broader operation - codenamed 'Pillar of Defence' - launched in response to days of heavy rocket fire from Gaza.

Sky sources say targets in northern Gaza are under ongoing bombardment from the Israeli navy.

Israeli authorities said earlier that aircraft had targeted 20 facilities that served as storage or launching sites for rockets - and that the killing of Hamas military commander Ahmed al Jaabari was "the beginning".

The guy is asking about tourism spots and general information about the country, why bring in some unrelated political stuff in it.

probably because if israel steps it up some more and the troops go in than the tourist spots might not be the safest or most accessible place to be

Not really, Anti-Zionism does not mean Anti-semitic.  After all, I'm american and anti-imperialist, which is basically the same thing.

That's true, but that doesn't mean anything in germany, when someone famous speaks out against israeli politics here, our media will mark him as an antisemit..

apart from that, I doubt the majority of the forum users knows there is a difference between zionism and judaism

It's already quite hard getting a clear definition of zionism without all the frequent amalgams at all.

erm.... well yeah.
Thank you guys for all this information, on & off topic...

I only have 1 day for sightseeing, the rest of the week is work. Company organized a tourist guide for me to show me around, would love to go scuba diving there but the time is just too goddamn short...
