The best way I can think of on how to balance archers, is what the headline says. This will allow archers to maintain their movement speed, while at the same time shutting down kiting. Archers needs their ability to move around fast, the ath-wpf patch was a good try, but not a very smart one. Increasing the weight of the archer gear is a good solution to prevent kiting, but it just shuts an archer down so bad. Would this be moddable?

I'm afraid that kind of things are hardcoded. Although there is hope considering similar things have been done in rageball.

I think I like this suggestion. It seems like it would prevent kiting but without removing the possibility to just run or dodge horses.
It would also make archery more skill based.
