Title: Speed Up movement
Post by: oprah_winfrey on October 25, 2012, 03:31:39 pm
Since cRPG combat has been slow so much, and it doesn't appear to be changed any time soon, can we atleast get Strat movement sped up. It takes forever to move anywhere even without the snow and forests. It is also impractical to buy enough horses for all my troops AND all my goods.

Until then, walking forever to get to my destination.

I'm all for this because we'd be able to have more battles more often, but I can see two drawbacks:

Also, as convenient as this would be for reducing the probability that I'll be stranded while sleeping, it's no real substitute for waypoints.

I thought a little more about this, and though of another solution. They could add some sort of roadways where you will be able to more faster. That would also create a weird dynamic where you may want to avoid the roadways because bandits could be hiding out, so if you are lightly armed you would be better off taking the safer but longer path.

I remember chadz saying he wanted more battles and not a micromanaged economics simulator, and I think allowing people to move faster is a step in that direction. Whether it be just faster movement in general, or a roadway system that increases your speed when on it.

As I lumbered along through the countryside of Nova Calradia, wondering why no one ever thought of building any paths or roads

Impractical? you cant afford 30k for 300 horses?  Thats less than what a small time traders make in 1 trade run, one way.

Strategy games take time, which obviously your ADHD self cant comprehend

1 horse for every troop + 1 for every crate.

If you have enough horses for your troops, and keep goods under troop count (goods, not crates, mind you) you should be able to move at about 30ish speed.  (Under 30 when the troop count is high).

Which is certainly fast enough for me.  If you are carrying more goods, yes, there is a speed or investment requirement.  This is part of a thing called "balance."

Did you miss the part where 2000 good caravans were intentionally nerfed?

That reminds me, I currently have 825 goods, but it says I am carrying about 600 crates. Shouldnt it be like 150 crates?

All goods over troop limit slow you down(in the form of really bad crate amounts)
