Title: Occitan: Special Forces

Does anyone find this badass?  Occitan just groups up in strat battles and unites into one machine.  Like they're a transformer or something.

Canadians have much more tolerance for control than their American counterparts.

Actually, Occitan is a very good assaulting machine. A force of occitan are good for any army.

BashiBazouks also did a great job of this in Strat 2 when they would do their Berserker Squad in battles with us. Honorable mention for fallen's skirmish archer squad as well.

was this from the recent hero/hosp strat fight. If so i was on that roof and them grouping up actually made it easier to plink the people behind the shields. If not for the short bows we were stuck with that shield wall would have been pretty lonely in short order.

nothing special about grouping together, especially when shield forcefields are nerfed and guys behind you are just as easily hit by ranged...you are actually endangering yourself by clumping up if archers have altitude on you

yeah.... in most situations shield walls are a no no. But asides from that, occitan is a very good group of infantry, gave us a lot of hell during the last sieges of strat 3.0

Those battles were awesome, free 800k - 1.2 Million xp per battle.

Occitan are great players and i have a great respect for their skill and prowess as battle, not so much their diplomatic choices.

Watch more Strategus battles. I'm not taking anything away from Occitan here- what they're doing is great, but it's hardly unique. ATS, NH, Fallen+HRE, Mercs, BashiBazouks... there are a lot of folks out there that keep it really, really tight on the battlefield.

Here's the odd thing about it (and why I picked those clans):
ATS was great at cRPG, but struggled in Strat
NH does some of the best looking formations I've seen but has never been astoundingly successful in Strat or cRPG
Fallen+HRE and BashiBazouks do great work in Strat, but aren't exactly dominating cRPG
Mercs are always very, very good at both Strat and cRPG, but don't tend to have the prettiest formations like you see in the pictures above (and Mercs are far, far superior special-purpose forces, nigh the best).

So don't confuse beauty for utility, and sometimes it's even a detrimental.

Plus, tactically speaking, their maneuver with high-held shields below an archer position is not a wise tactical choice. Shield walls are useful in limited circumstances- it's become a joke amongst the NA Fallen Archer Death Squad: "Oh no, hold your fire, they've made a shieldwall!" Siege Shields would have been much, much better in that environment, attacking from that angle against that opponent.

BTW guys it's not like we stood there for the whole battle with arrows in our eyes.

We stayed in that formation for 10-20 sec, it wasn't the best idea as we were getting plumbed. ( i'm the dude with the war darts and i took a couples arrows )

We're usualy leaded into those kind of shock troop duty stuff. I enjoy it, you may say it's not that super effective, but it's alot of fun.

He also kills almost as many allies than enemies lol so i guess it evens out

It was Snipslot, im probably the last person you would like to see as a pikeman.. All i do is teamwound my allies and get them killed when i use that broken shit

You still rape us in NA 2, and make tents, which is pretty bad ass.
