Title: Custom banners
Post by: Firebrand on September 25, 2012, 07:56:38 pm
Custom clan banners are important cRPG mode feature. So here is little suggest to improve it. Just make texture of custom banners bigger! 2048x2048 would be enough. Its look silly for now - blurry banner images on detailed armor and shields! I dont think that it will hit on game performance, but it would make game picture more eye-candy! :P

Ideally I would support this 110%...but I am not actually so sure it wouldn't have an influence on game performance...I'd have to let someone else answer that.

If it works I'd love to see it.

sounds sexy.  not sure if practical.  mount and blade seems to have a lot of strange things coded in unchangable ways - banner sizes very well might be included in this.

Well, i should test new size on my warband copy. I will change all "std_banners_custom"  files in Mount&Blade Warband\Modules\cRPG\Textures directory and if it will wokrs fine i will tell you guys! Pretty sure it must work... :)

Ok, just tested. As i expected all working well. I launched launcher, - it downloaded banner pack, then i overwrite all custom banners on 2048x2048 banners(i made in photoshop) and after it i launch the game. New banners works  fine, without visible fps drop, and as expected now banner textures looks cool without annoyng bluriness. All we have to do is just increase textures size, and let ppl make higher res banners - profit! - banners now look sexy eye-candy! :D

About cooded weird things - i think that most stupid hard coded thing in Warband about banners is that all banners just flipped horizontally on game 3d models. WHY? Why they did that stupid shit? All letters just flipped - i dont see any reason for that feature - just stupid! Anyway i think there is some way to fix it...:D
Sorry for my bad english!

There is a lot of graphical things that could be improved\changed in Warband - some 3d models bugs\ugliness, textures and many more, but game is very old and we all waiting M&B2 so i think we will improve M&B2. Look how ppl changed Skyrim - when i first time launch game i was shoked, - such ugly characters, such ugly ambience, such ugly trees, such ugly horses and so on. Now i just downloaded mod compilation for Skyrim - its just different game and different expirience! Love games made friendly for modders community! :)

A) Game performance
B) I like the non-razor-sharp texture on it. More realistic.

They shouldn't be blurred,  number of details on banner doesn't matter, edges of details are blurred in comparision with armor texture details! Its looks ugly, I will make some screens for comparision later.
