Title: Medici Diplomacy
Post by: Braeden on September 25, 2012, 06:28:05 pm
The Medici are newly arrived in this land, having no enemies or territory of our own.  With no cause for war, we are primarily interested in trade.  If you are interested in negotiating a trade treaty, we would be happy to speak with you.  Please contact Braeden here, on IRC, or via steam if you wish to negotiate, or have a complaint regarding the actions of one of our traders.

While we are currently without cause for war, know that we are quite interested in our trade, and will defend ourselves against any aggressions.

If you are interested in joining the Medici, please apply via PM.

Update 10/5/2012
Hereby finding that peace is, like, really boring and that trading pretty much just leads to increased gold and that as it turns out without fighting there isn't really any point to that gold, the Medici do now change our diplomatic stance from "peaceful trading" to "aggressive occasionally violent trading."  Please react accordingly.

Know that we are open to buying goods directly on the border of our territory at fair prices, but our S&D is off limits to traders without a prior trading agreement (trespassers will be shot, hanged, drawn, quartered, and raped, not necessarily in that order).

What's the advantage of letting people trade in your owned fief?

Generally, polobow, the Medici will be attempting to negotiate with fief owners to ensure they receive a percentage of profits higher than that traditionally expected.  We do not expect fief owners to spend all their precious points on raising the tax, not when we could simple volunteer a tax, or alternatively flat higher price for the goods.

While it is true that most fief owners could use their own S&D and simply do what we do to earn the most money, we offer a way to get a large share of the money without having to spend so much time away from home and combat.

We have no wish, however, to trade where we are not wanted, so fear not, Keshian.

Polo the only advantage is that you make money off the purchase due to the tax % of the fief.  Indirect benefits could be alliances, reciprocal trading partners, or sexual favors.

Also what Braeden said, getting a cut for letting someone trade in your lands (above the tax, which could be negotiated) is another nice advantage.  You are able to stay and protect your lands that way, and don't have to worry about maneuvering the map.

Lots of times this happened in strat 3 with independent traders.  They would come and buy goods from people at a cost higher than it would be to make them in the fief (so if say it's 5 gold/good they might buy at 10 gold/good).  You make 5 gold/good profit right there, and then they can march across the map (what they were already going to do anyways), sell the goods for 25 gold (making 15 gold/good on top of some lucrative trade distance bonuses) and then just repeat the process in that territory they are now in.

I would ask that if possible this topic be kept clear of third party discussions, so as to keep it as simple as possible for any diplomatic needs.  You have my thanks in advance.
