Title: Pure Crossbowman build - help!

Hey guys

So i have to chose a build.

I think i will go for 15/27 str/agi.

4ps 4athl 9wm

But how about wpf? I thought about getting 175wpf in xbows and 70wpf in 1h (i am preparing for next patch) and I will use it without shield, but is 70wpf at 1h worth at all if im going to use:

a) long espada eslavona on daily basis
b) Iberian mace from time to time

So?

And does anyone know if it is worth it to go for more than 170 wpf in xbows with Sniper xbow? I want to have max accuracy.

EDIT: 180 at xbow will make the accuracy like what you have playing native MP.

How can I use Sniper crossbow with 9 str? Teach me!

Nah, your build would force me to use light crossbow, which has nothing to do with sniping. Low bolt speed is pain, and if it rains, you can't kill even peasants. (not because of dmg, but bolt's speed of flying)

I wouldn't recommend using a long espada with 4 PS. The thrust damage will be nice, but the cut damage is rather poor.

I would recommend something a bit harder hitting on the swings, preferably something with blunt or pierce damage. But then you end up with very short weapons, which in turn requires higher athletics to get close enough to hit someone.

I'd say the SCS is a decent option (33 cut 105 range, a tad slow) since you'll be using it without a shield (a bit higher speed). When you take the 15/24 5 PS 8 ath 8 WM build, you should be able to do well with the hammers/maces/picks, which generally do more damage per swing than the swords.

This is going to be my post patch xbowman. It's a bit of a melee hybrid. imo you need at least 5 ps, 100 wpf and 6 ath to do well as a 1h. I also really don't see the point in putting more than 150 wpf in xbows.

Using the program ImageJ (free and awesome,) I measured the distance between the centers on the 3 interior circles in each reticule image. From these measurements I determined the “width” of the each reticule using the average distance between the interior circles. I used an average value here because, even at 1920x1080 resolution, the distance values had digitization and, more significantly, the distance between the bottom two circles is different that the distance from the upper circle to either lower circle.  I also determined the “area” of each reticule since projectile grouping are areal, not linear. This reticule area was defined as the area of a circumscribed circle for an equilateral triangle with edge length equal to the given reticule width. Below are plots of the reticule width and reticule area in pixels and pixels^2, respectively, as a function of crossbow proficiency.

I'm not sure what the accuracy values on the website are suppose to be, but it does not appear to be accuracy in the traditional sense.

I also measured the time taken to expend 21 bolts (the one that comes loaded and a 20 bolt quiver) allowing for a minimized reticule each shot. I can also report that the agility of a character does not directly increase crossbow rate of fire.

I agree with this build except i'd go 6 ath, 0 IF, and perhaps 4 shield

Remember that he is preparing for the next patch, so using shield would mean no melee weap :P


I'd recommend going for that 24/15 agi/str build given above, mostly cause I'm using it too :) You'll need high atletics or else the melee'ers will just outrun you and force you to use your tiny 1handed sword against their 140wpf 2hander.

My character is meant to check sniper and heavy xbow at 160 and 175 wpf. i am asking about a difference between 1 wpf at 1h and 70 wpf at 1h (180wpf xbow or 175 wpf xbow but with 1h)

My character is meant to help WaltF4 with tests, I already asked him if he wants screenies and he does :D

You need wpf for 1hs, otherwise you're just going to get outspammed by backpeddaling 2hs. Unless your blocking is excellent. Honestly easiest way to test this is just to make a new character. 2 ps, 4 ath and 70 wpf doesn't take long to get, just test it.

Hey Dravic !

This is exactly the build of my Xbower. ( 15st , 27 agi , 14 conv. , 4 ps , 4 athl. , 9 wm )

He is only lvl 28 now, but it works already. And pretty well.

Now he has 160 wpf in xbow and 76 in pole. My aim at lvl 30 is 160 wpf in xbow ( it´s enough for me ) , and 114 in pole.

What is after the patch i will look , when it is there ...

But the build is very good. You can use Sniper Xbow and aim pretty good with 160 wpf. I use a Long Hafted Spiked Mace as melee.

Btw : I use only 1 slot with steel bolts cause reloading is soooooo slow. 15 bolts are enough for me. I like to run around with my team too, helping here and there with shooting or switching to melee as support inf. But your on the right way with this build ...

OK, Sean_Drew, I knew I am not the only idiot on the Earth using this build (joke aside, neither I nor you are idiots :D)

I'm wondering, if any 2h/polearms (short ones ofc) will be 1slot. Then I wouldn't have any questions, because I can do well with 2h and polearms even with 1 wpf. I have to ask in proper thread.

I heard that some shorter pole should be 1 slot , after the patch. Maybe spear , or shortened spear or something , so my pole points are not wasted.

Nice to see total agreement about this build , with you Dravic ;-)
I only remember you having different opinions about shields , with me. Nice to be on the same side with this build  :wink:

I heard that xbow accuracy was capped off at 138 or something, I think Waltf4 has a post on it you might wanna take a look at it.
So it might be totally pointless to go pure crossbowman, but I could be completely wrong as usual, just sayin' what I heard.
