Title: New Katana Model
Post by: gazda on September 23, 2012, 01:23:32 am
native katana is generally very low quality, so we need a new one; here it is:

web 3d preview(shading may vary from the ingame shading)
http://p3d.in/qEpkO

picture takne from brf editor(again shading may vary from the ingame shading, and theres no anti aliasing)

model has exactly the same reach as native one. it also has 5x more polys and 4x bigger texture

your thoughts?

looks abit more plastic, than the native through the model it self is pretty good.

Very nice model - would increase lag for lower-end machines however, due to polygon increase.

Is it compatible with final boss' pack?

shading highly depends on where its previewed

well, 600 polys is not that much, all the non native swords and weapons have polycoutn around that number

i dont know what final boss' pack does exactly, so i cant answer that

blade is the same thickness as native katana, and i dont think theres a need to post pics of your "amusement" toys in here

Well its not bad, but a bit of grime/ a bit more added to the texture + less shiney may make it more believable

there is no normal mapping for the blade itself, i removed it on purpose since all the pictures of katana blades were just pure clean steal, no scratches or bumps. Ill make it with normal map again and upload the pictures

You shouldn't need to remake it, just rebake it ;P

For stuff like that i use xnormal ;)

http://www.ksky.ne.jp/~sumie99/styles.html (http://www.ksky.ne.jp/~sumie99/styles.html)

I don't know why but it looks a bit roundish. The shape isn't when I look closely, but the impression is like that.

- Would be cool if you could think about the tip shape a bit and also add a little hamon.. :)

Otherwise, very nice!

picture of blade(same model) with normal map, again, this is taken in BRF editor and it looks a bit different then it would look ingame

(click to show/hide)

@thomek, blade model is most is the shape of that type 1, about the tip, i haven't really changed it much, just added a bit more geometry to the native tip

Tbh the blade texture looks nicer on that, Perhaps you could put it on the fancy website where you can 360 the model and have a good look at it?

What the hell? I try to open the first link (which worked before) and now apparently my graphics card doesn't support open GL?

you see this is the same texture as it is on that 3d showcase website, yet you can compare the picture with the preview and see how different they look. though the brf look is a lot more simillar to real ingame look then that website
