That looks like a strat map rather then a battle map because of how in depth it is. I feel the town and dock and basically everything to the north is going to be ignored cause people just charge right into the other team in the battle.

Cavalry may not want to charge into a forest full of archers >.>

Light armored players may want to avoid that too. I think plenty of players will use the town and some of the other parts of the map.

Even still, if they just use the forest, at least they get to enjoy the view on the way over to it xD


@Elindor, the people are scene props. I decided to add some fishermen to the docks just to make it look like a peaceful area.


The aim is to give battle a slight RPG feel. Of course if you were a bandit archer, you would be in the forest waiting to ambush people. If you were a knight or heavy cavalry, you would probably be making use of the town walls and performing charges and flanks.
Plenty of space between the spawns to keep players from spawn rushing, and a lot of open area for cavalry to be used effectively.
I tried to put something for everyone, even the pirates! ;P

i like some of the details in your map (people fishing, alley in the forrest) but for me, at least visually map is ruined with the dock in the corner and water ending at the map border, especially where there is one of the outer_terrains that gives you one side open to sea so docks looks natural in there

balance wise the blue team might have an advantage since they will most likely take the little town and the other team will be stupid enough to try and attack it ;p but thats just the theory ^^

There is almost no cover inside of the town, the town just provides cover from the forest. There are three entrances into the town, so if a team did get it and tried to hold it, they would have to potentially defend from three sides as it can be easily flanked. Imo, the only advantage for going into the town is if you have superior infantry/cavalry and want to avoid the forest and/or flank the enemy team, but again they can flank you while you do that (no one can see what is happening over the walls).

It looks good. Judging from the layout the main battle will be around the forfest/town. How close are the spawns to that area? Do both team have about the same travel time to the forest and town?

In the first pic, it shows the spawns. However, the blue one is actually further down the path towards the edge of the map. They should be about even distance. It wouldn't be a huge difference in times.

Bleh, been tied up in strategus. I tried to do some work on it but it crashed to desktop 5 times. I posted about this problem like a month ago in this section but I haven't been able to fix it. It happens when I raise the land in a specific spot on the map. If I do that anywhere else, I'm fine. ;(

I'll figure it out though.

Make a new copy of your map and try working on that.
