What is second mod of the Langes Messer ? 2H or pole ?

Is there some 2h with 1h secondary mode ?

Longsword, Bastard Sword, Heavy Bastard Sword, Goedendag and Katana can be used with shields, but receive a severe penalty when doing so. Also, using them in one hand requires a shield. It's not something you can manually switch like most alternative weapon modes.

Polearm mode is the secondary mode of 2h swords, yes.
Using them as a 1h is the bastard ability of certain 2handers (those that TurmoilTom mentioned), but it's NOT a secondary mode. Bastard Mode =/= not secondary mode and TurmoilTom should be ashamed of himself.
Bastard mode is when you equip a shield together with your 2h (that is designated as a bastard weapon with the "one-handed/two-handed" tag) and you use 1h wpf in this mode together with a hefty nerf in damage and speed, similar to that gained when using a 2h from horse. Same applies to polearms when used with a shield and/or horse (although slightly bigger penalty).

I have seen different values depending on the stats of the weapons itself.
Assume that it is somewhere around 30% to both speed and damage.
Vibe (might have been Teeth, can't remember) once made a post with the actual calculations which showed that it was not just a flat 30% penalty. Tried to find it some weeks ago, but it's buried deep in the forums D:

Some 1H weapons have an alternate mode that changes them to 2H. The fighting pick, military sickle, fighting axe, and langes messer are the only ones I remember off the top of my head. Good to use if you are a heavy crossbow/arbalest/2 slot bow user. They are typically a little stronger than their 1H modes, but still only take up 1 slot of inventory space. The only 2H category weapon that is 1 slot is the mace. In their alternate modes, the 1H weapons use 2H weapon proficiency.
Many 2H swords have an alternate mode that is called "half-swording" and is meant to be used as an anti-cavalry measure. It uses polearm weapon proficiency, and your overhead and thrust are both the same thrusting animation. It can be used to rear an incoming horse, but most people don't bother with it.
Some 2H weapons are listed as 1 handed/2 handed. This means that if you have a shield, you can wield them at the same time. In this case they use 1H weapon proficiency. Like spears, they get lowered damage and speed while you have the shield out.
A lot of this is rehashing what others said, but I felt like consolidating into a single post. Hope this helps! :)

I never said it was the secondary mode. I said it was an alternate mode.
