basis looks good, hope they use some of the sales money to improve it though.
Would love a MMORTS game like this, where you control the crew of larger ships, you can split control of crew with friends/guildees, etc
Pretty sad when this game makes STO look shallow

Bought it on the day of release. Nerd3 makes normal look easy.
All hell breaks loose quickly if you're not careful.
I've completed it twice on easy with two different ships (Federation ones) but both times I used hull breach weapons to take out the rocket launchers, then shields while blasting it with lasers (not beams).
It's a good game, and I shall continue to play it, it's very good for what it is though, and only paying just over a fiver makes it all the better.
I recommend it if anyone wants a quick hour or so play.

hopefully they release other galaxies and enemies and a harder mode. I beat it on easy after 12 hour marathon on day 2 but know I need moar..

Best indie game I've played in a looonng time.
Just beat it earlier with the beginning federation ship. Had two Burst Laser II's and a heavy laser at the end. Also had a Anti-Ship Drone II flying around harassing. Continued focus barrage on the flagships shield generator and that was all she wrote. Cloaking device is invaluable for dodging that missile salvo.
Hope this game gets more support so we can see an expansion or sequel.

Yeah, this game is pretty fun :)
-
It's fun, but the replayability is a bit low. After just a few playthroughs I stopped seeing new events/encounters...
-
Kind of looks like that one game Notch the Minecraft guy was working on
-
its only a 10 dollar game.
I like to call it an appetizer game. Play it on the side and such.
Trying not to cheat and read the walkthrus online is hard tho.
-
core concept/ship managment - very cool
combat - not enough feedback, a bit too simple
navigation/campaign - feels like a flash game :/ , too much based on luck imo.
Interesting non-the-less
-
I never get to destroy that last big ship.
-
20 hours ish before I beat the game. Well worth the money :)
-
I never get to destroy that last big ship.
explore as much space before you fight the last boss to have better ship.
Get repair drone if possible
Avoid all random battles before boss. Dont use repair station until after 1st battles.

pirate bay'd to demo it, liked it alot - its fun and cleverly designed.
tried to buy from site, didn't work. might still buy it at some point.
if this was on iphone/browser I would consider it a 10/10 game, but for a full pc release just feels abit cheeky. £7 is cheap but still quite alot for what it is; a stellar browser game.
it reminds me of pokemon, but pokemon was great for gameboy game. I'm not sure I would have liked it so much if I couldn't play it anywhere, and that my irk with FTL.
I really think they should have:
1. released a demo
2. released a mobile version
3. charged slightly less imo (maybe i'm just a tight cunt)

Yeah I think it could make a really good iPad game.
I can't stop visiting those six legged creature planet deathtraps! It's a great game though. The original Colonization used to be my goto game for passing time at the airport but this one's going to replace it.

WTF DEATH TRAPS? I always pet them and leave

Bump. Finally got around to playing this and after many failed attempts (and unlocking all but 4 layouts) I've finally beaten the damn game on easy. Pretty fun, very addicting, sad that I've almost "finished" (really wish there were some sort of unlimited/play-till-you-die mode).

Here's some happy news for everyone who enjoyed this game.

Chris avellone is helping them?
Oh my.....

Good news indeed

For those looking for more content, check out the Captains Edition: http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15663
It adds new weapons, drones, events, sectors, augmentations, enemy ships, and a trading system. Lots of fun (and death).

I think the game's "story" could be better. I like random events but sometimes I wish the rewards were less connected to the events. In other words, I would prefer the game if it was not only random when you arrive on a beacon (which event happens ?) but also after you completed it (what is the reward/punishment ?). A larger possible gap between effort and reward would increase replayability in the same way it is done in say, Banning of Isaac, because of the "I will get better items next time" effect.
-
sweet, I want to see someone take the concept but translate it into a sandbox instead of a game that has a start and end.
-
I sunk about 20 hours into the game but I couldn't put anymore after steam's cloud corrupted my save and I lost all of my ships. 20 hours and I had about four ships and a couple variants. I might start playing a again after the update but that was pretty heartbreaking.
-
That sounds pretty terrible, especially since a lot of the ships/variants have such unfair conditions to unlock anyway.
In your situation, I'd recommend this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ftleditor/
-
Thanks, I'll look into using it. I had the easiest ones to unlock I think but I didn't even really get to play any of them, it was just a bit disheartening because it is random events that unlocks most everything and it's a dice roll of whether you actually end up outfitted enough to win in the last sector (which happened once). I played again yesterday for a little while but ended up getting shat on because every ship I came across had a missile weapon that liked to breach and destroy my O2 room, on top of some in storms and asteroid fields.
