Title: Mechwarrior Online
Post by: Dexxtaa on September 09, 2012, 07:16:23 pm
So if you ride a horse in cRPG, it's pretty similar controls to Mechwarrior Online xD

The controls are not the only similarity.

Here we can see an accurate depiction of a plated charger + crossbow.

From the Battletech/Mechwarrior lore, my clan name is influenced.
For old times sake i installed MW Vengenace/Blackknight/Mercenaries again 4 days ago after registrating for MWO Beta and also to get the skills a bit up again.

The control scheme is actually a lot more simplified from MW4. It manages to retain the same readout and skill requirement without feeling really dumbed down though.

Been playing closed beta for a while now and I am confident enough to say this game is going to be awesome once it reaches v1.0

So I'm in the beta, but I really have no clue what this is about. Do I just pilot a mech and blow up other mechs and shit?

The fact that you posted this makes me sad that you're even in the Beta, filthy stravag.

This comes much MUCH later in the Beta. Right now they're trying to balance and sort out the combat mechanics and gameplay.

Played a couple of matches last night, i like it! Never played any of the earlier mechwarrior games, but i think i will enjoy this when it is fully released.. Only problem is that to me it is kind of a spam left click game so far, maybe when i get into it a bit more i will figure out strategies and stuff to make it more interesting.

Spam left click? In a mechwarrior game? What? Have we been playing the same game?

Maybe that is just me, just got started on this, also just found out how to bind different weapons n stuff..

Gravoth, different weapons have different optimum ranges, with damage dropoff beyond the optimal range, and minimal to no damage when too close for the weapon to discharge effectively.

Also, you have to take heat into account and make sure you're not constantly firing everything, leading to your self destruction.

I was playing in the trial fatties again after the most recent wipe, and I blew my leg off because I overheated  xD

You can set a weapon group to volley fire too by pushing backspace on the highlighted number group you wish to do so, it's good to do this with missiles because it will fire the first weapon in that group, then the next and so on til it cycles back round to the first weapon, missiles really shake your cockpit around so can really mess up an enemies vision by hitting him with a constant hail of missiles rather than all at once.

Saying that I also have a Raven with 4x Medium Pulse lasers, I have volley fire set to use for when I am circling a big mech (otherwise I just use Alpha Strike to fire all at once, like in hit and run attacks or when chasing an enemy mech ), one pulse laser fires after another and 4 lasers is just enough that the firing never stops until I need to cooldown, it really makes some guys panic when they are under a constant hail of fire rather than just being hit by all weapons at once, shakes their mech up good.

Gonna try that. I didn't know about volley fire.

Fun game, will be a real spectacle when they add a destructible environment, bring back knockdowns, etc

The grind for your first Mech is a total bummer though, hope they change that (but it did work as intended in the end... paid 15 bucks to get my Catapult asap ;) - but some players might quit before they reach the Mech Lab, which is 50% of the game imho).

I just started playing not too long ago, and boy does it feel the aching metallic hole in my center torso heart hardpoint.

Been running a semi brawler/sniper Atlas RS-7 and a 2xER Large Laser 2xLarge Laser dragon for a mobile laser sniper.

Once I build up the Cbills to get the new Stalker 5S, that will be my close/mid range brawler and I can really start tweaking a PPC platform on the Atlas.

Sawbone:  They just added a cadet bonus in the new patch that will get you about 8million Cbills in the cadet bonus alone (doesn't count other match bonuses) in your first 25 matches.  That should be enough to afford just about anything.  If you've already played 25 matches, you'll get 7.9mil your first match on coming back.  It is the tits.

Also REPAIR/REARM BILL IS GONE.

Cadet Bonus was a nice thing, i bought two more version of my favourite Catapult, want to chect the Elite skill for my PPC Catapult

Thread is still relevant, because it's a good game, and the latest nerf to sniper weapons (PPC and Gauss) helps to make closer combat action more viable. Also, in 2 days, the new 75 ton heavy mech "Orion" will be available for regular currency.

BTW: another reason to like this game is that the whine on the official forums make you feel instantly at home as a cRPG veteran.

Yeah, it launched on the 17th, the day after I posted. I played in the beta, it is actually a pretty fun game. I just got overwhelmed by other games from Steam sales

Discussions about a leaked screenshot with a strange shadow: http://mwomercs.com/forums/topic/144539-whats-that-mech/ It's kind of amazing how much love some people have for the Battletech franchise. Some dudes buy every hero mech (can only be bought with real money), which costs more than several other full retail games combined.

It's sad that gameplay development progresses so slowly, though. Basically only team deathmatch and domination currently in, gets a bit old after a while. There's a new map coming next week and the third mech from the Phoenix Package (Thunderbolt) will be available for non-money backed credits finally.

It will be interesting to see how they implement the clan invasion. For those non-versed in Battletech lore, the clans have OP equipment compared to their enemies, so it will be hard to tackle in a balanced and still lore-friendly way.

What i cant wait for is when they include the actual inner/outer sphere maps. Where you can then occupy territories through these fights on the maps ... MechStrategus ^^

Yeah, that's basically what i was looking for in this game. Kind of lacking in content, atm, even if the core gameplay is rock solid and awesome.

New patch is out:

- New map (moonbase, no atmo, high contrast, low sounds)
- Thunderbolts for CBills
- Wolverine and Griffin for those who bought Saber package (new targets for the others)
- Skirmish mode (pure team deathmatch, basically assault without bases)

New hero mech out: Banshee "La Malinche", and someone made a flashy video:

There are now 29 different mech chassis out and we haven't even seen the clans yet. If they keep working on it like this, they might have a decent game in a couple of years.
Title: Re: Mechwarrior Online
Post by: Leesin on March 05, 2014, 08:31:42 am
It doesnt matter how many mechs they add, they need to fix a lot of shit and work on the features we've been waiting for since beta before this game will ever be 'decent' overall. They couldn't even do UI 2.0 right.

Yeah, I know. I give them time until the clans arrive, and if nothing significant has changed until then, I'm out. Skirmishes are fun and all, but not forever.
