Title: Best screen recorders?
Post by: Ptolemy on September 05, 2012, 07:13:33 pm
Okay, so I've been using Fraps for a long time, but I'm sure there are better recording tools out there. I saw in another thread that someone was recommending PlayClaw, is this actually better than fraps, or are there any other alternatives that you can suggest?

(I've been suggested Bandicam before and I've found it completely useless, so let's not be suggesting that one, please)

[Edit: Rejected list]

Bandicam
PlayClaw

Same, I'll be paying attention to this thread.

I tested PlayClaw after making this thread - while it recorded at a nice FPS (higher than fraps with less CPU usage), the audio wasn't picked up at all (which was probably me getting a setting wrong) also, when it got to about a minute and 30 seconds the video became corrupted and unwatchable - the point where fraps switches to a new file rather than making a giant single file, probably to stop this happening.

So PlayClaw is a non-option for me.

I'll check xfire later, but I switched from xfire to Fraps because I found Fraps faster and higher quality, so I don't hold much hope.

Any other suggestions?

What exactly (apart from CPU usage) is your issue with Fraps? Why to search for alternative?

bandicam is the best imo... great screen resolutions avail for the free version, low cpu usage, small run size.

I have used just about everything else, and this one by far has been the best.

PlayClaw, just set audio to speakers/mic or both to get sound

I heard the same. But can't make it work for some reason.

No issue, I'm just curious if there's a better alternative out there.

Will be testing MSI later on.

As already stated Bandicam and PlayClaw create corrupted videos for me, so are useless to me.
