So here it is, I just retired from 31 level of polearm. It was my first time playing the game and i feel polearms aren't the best for me so i'm questioning myself about going shielder + 1h or 2h? And why? (like built suggestion with what abilities to up)
-
terrible question
-
It entirely depends on playstyle and situation.
Before saying anything, why were "polearms" not for you?

Well, idk, just felt like polearms were too predictable to my enemy because of the reach, I think i'm more of a close-up guy who likes to fight short range. Between nice picture, Castiel is awseome.

This is going to be one hell of a "discussion".
1h glance a lot, require more footwork, are shorter than most other weapons, and have lousy animations.
2h is the longest* of weapons, tend to weigh a lot, hilt slash without effort, rarely glance, and you don't have to sacrifice skills for a shield.
*The swords are longer than some polearms in animation.

2h ofc
-
2h if u want power and reach, and speed.
1h if you want to survive longer. Faster weapons, lower dmg,but you can block arrows and multiple ppl.

Can you manual block?(since you said it's your first time) If so and you like close ranged/clusterfuck fighting go 1h shielder with a heavy round/huscarls and wade through enemy lines like a hot knife through butter! If you can't manual block i'd say go 2h-hero and learn how to block asap, after you've learned how to block like the average joe you can test all the builds you like and search for the right playstyle/weapon choice.

Well yes I can block pretty good, but i'm pretty weak at blocking to the right when people attack from left to right. I don't know if it's a bug or I just need to move the block to a certain place but I always get beaten in a 1 vs 1 when people use that.

I would suggest this with a morning star then for a two hander build that can engage the enemy and deal a lot of damage up close. It has the speed that you will be able to close in with the average opponent just fine.
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
Strength: 18
Agility: 21
Hit points: 59
Skills to attributes: 8
Ironflesh: 3
Power Strike: 6
Athletics: 7
Weapon Master: 7
Two Handed: 165

That might be an issue with your mouse. Try a different one.
Back on topic, like everyone has said, as a shielder you can confront multiple enemies easier than as a two-hander (plus you can protect yourself from arrows). The problem, in my opinion, of 1h is that the animations are harder than 2h's, and you need to "facehug" a lot more too.

If you haven't done any STF characters, this would be the time for it. Try out both and see what fits your style.
