Light armor because of the wpf penalty and, if you have enough money bodkins(doh), bow depends on your build, rus bow is sick though, horn for fire rate and a bit less dmg, longbow if your build allows it.  :)

Keep the armor weight fairly low otherwise your accuracy will suffer greatly. :D

For someone to actually say the names of the Item's that are good for an archer.
Ex: leather jerkin, light leather boots, etc.

Most archers stay at around 8 - 12 armor weight. Anything under 10 doesn't give you any penalty.
Important to know is this:

Hand Armor counts 4x the weight.
Head Armor counts 2x the weight.
Body and Leg Armor counts 1x the weight.

My equip is a perfect example for that.

Tribal Warriour Outfit 5.6 weight
Mail Gauntlets 0.5 weight *4 = 2.0 weight
Rus Cavalry Boots 0.8 weight
In total = 8.4 weight, that means I don't have any weight penalty by my gear. I could also wear a helmet with up to 0.8 weight (*2 = 1.6 weight) and still be without penalty.

With leather jerkin, light leather boots and similar light helmets and gauntlets your fine as well of course.

You can surely go above 10 weight as well, even with medium gear you are fine as well, you just need to get used to the aim then. ;)

Head: Anything under 1 weight (I prefer no helmet)
Body: Anything under 5 weight
Gloves: Anything under 1 weight
Boots: Anything under 1 weight

The closer you get to the max weight on all the above the more likely you'll notice a little bit of reduction.  Helmet & glove weight count for more, so if you're going to cut something those could be places to consider.

I currently use no helmet, a 1.9 weight body armor, a .3 weight gloves, and a .8 pair of boots, so I'm far below what I put above.

If anyone was interested here is what i got now (changed a bit):
Vaegir Helmet 0.6*2 (1.2)
Padded Leather (5.5)
Mail Gauntlets 0.5*4 (2.0)
Light Leather Boots (0.7)

So I'm on 9.4 equip wight.
That mean's no penalty for me :)
Thank's!!

That sounds pretty good. Maybe a lighter sword, but that's just a matter of personal preference.

I have a total of 11.8 body armor, and after getting used to it, it's really fine.
Also, never getting one shot by xbows, and sometimes surviving lance in the body.

I probably trade 5-10% of wpf, for a second chance. Depends on your playstyle, but for me, it's worth it.

Also, bodkins are sadly very expensive. Good thing is, there's a lot of archers who uses them. Take tatar arrows, kill archers or stay alive while your teammates (archers) get killed, and loot their arrows. You'll usually find half a dozen of extra bodkins, just for you, and for free.

Langes Messer is nice. You can also use it as 2h, and it's 1 slot. Better for most players than Military Sickle, Mace and Fighting Axe. It also depends on yourself, what kind of wapon you prefer.

Considering the upkeep of bodkins together with another arrow stack, bow and some decent gear, you should always look on the weapon's price.

So only armor reduces prof but not the weight of the rest of the equipment? Like bow, arrows, melee weapon? I havent played archer for ages and couldnt remember anymore...

yep only armor, the rest of the weight only affect your movement speed.

I feel like this is a stupid question, but Joseph_Porta? I noticed that when you were listing down good bows toward the end of the list, you entirely skipped the Yumi. How good is the Yumi in relation to other bows? I saw that it was the strongest bow that took only one slot, so I picked it up. Did I just mess up my purchase?

The yumi is usually used by horse archers because it is the strongest bow usable on a horse.  Personally I don't care for it simply due to it's slow missile speed.  Other people like it, the only way to know is to try it out yourself.

I hear people talking about the armor limit before WPF penalty being 10.  Did they change this recently?  7.5 is the limit I have always been going by.  It would be nice if they did change it since they increased the weight of those lighter armors a while back and ruined some of my gear setups.

Going to take a guess here and say that that means that the Yumi is not the bow of snipers. What would BE the bow of snipers? (Sniper herein being the guy that takes shots at extreme range).

I'm hesitant to reach for the Rus Bow and Longbow, because they take two slots, and that means I only have 1 slot for ammo if I want to still have a backup weapon.

Should I be going over to Crossbows if I want to be sniping?

there are some 0 slot 1h weapons u can use for defend yourself lihe hand axe, pickaxe , hammer, sickle, wooden stick and hatchet. With other 0 slot weapons you can't block.
I'm using hand axe and i think it's best weapon fore pure archer with 2 slot bow.
If you want to make pure archer go for horn bow, rus bow or long bow. Last one is hardest to use because of speed. If you are beginner you should try rus or horn bow, but killing ppl with longbow is giving you lots fun 8-)
